Comprehension

1. Read the whole passage once


2. Give another reading to the passage and underline important points (optional)
3. Give a fast reading to questions
4. Avoid copying and pasting
5. Write your answer in your own words

Reading Skills

a) You read newspaper, shopping list etc. do you read it the same way as you read the text
b) While reading a text sometimes we read details; sometime we search for key words to have an
idea what we are reading about (skimming, scanning)
c) New vocabulary
• Don’t pre teach all the new vocabulary
• Let the students guess the meaning of new words
• Key words in paragraph
• Pair up the students to work out meaning
• Give them matching activity (synonyms, antonyms)
d) Reading comprehension vs Reading aloud
e) Introduce the theme of the text first
f) Follow up
• Debating/Discussion or retelling the story (oral)
• Summarize the story or write a letter (written)
• Set a task for home work regarding vocabulary
g) Use authentic material
• Don’t afraid to use authentic material with low level
• Creating easy and simple task
