9.2.4. Commentary:
This mantra is like a precursor to the upasthana mantra of morning
sandyavandanam which satarts with the words, ÍqɧÉxrÉ cÉwÉïhÉÏ SØiÉÈ, ´ÉuÉÉå SåuÉxrÉ xÉÉlÉxÉÏqÉç……
ÍqɧÉÉå eÉlÉÉlÉç rÉÉiÉrÉÌiÉ mÉëeÉÉlÉlÉç …… We recite the wonderful glory of Lord Surya who
knowingly controls the activities of people and conducts them.
Maha Vishnu is xiÉurÉÈ xiÉuÉÌmÉërÉÈ xiÉÑÌiÉÈ, He is worthy of paraise. He is fond of
being praised. In fact he is Himself xiÉÑÌiÉ and He loves those who say His xiÉÑÌiÉ. Vishnu

Supreme Lord and Supreme Self of everything. He indeed controls everything being
their indwelling self. This atmatatwa is all pervasive, it is the One5, free from
modifications and so, motionless. Still the unmanifest Self appears like many. It is faster
than even mind because, mind can reach any thing only if the atmatatwam is already
there. It surpasses, as it were, all fast moving things which are non self like mind, word,
organs of perception etc.6
Leave alone all these abstract philosophy. The Lord is pÉ£üuÉixÉsÉ.7 So, when He
hears the Prayers of His devotees he reaches them fast. For this very reason the mantra
adapts the Upanishad’s words, vÉUÏUÇ qÉå ÌuÉcÉwÉïhÉqÉç. ÎeÉÀûÉ qÉå qÉkÉÑqɨÉqÉÉ.8
