Q: What is Tax?
A: a compulsory contribution to state revenue, levied by the government on workers' income and
business profits, or added to the cost of some goods, services, and transactions.
Q: What is FBR?
A: A legal institution created by the Federal government of Pakistan under the law of Pakistan, to
impose Income Tax Ordinance 2001.
Q: What are responsibilities of FBR to do?
A: FBR is responsible for imposing and collecting Taxes (Income tax, Sales taxes etc.) and have
an eye on every citizen of Pakistan that if s/he is earning than what is the way he adopt, registered
with FBR or not, his books of accounts (in case of Business) are showing true and fair view or
not, paying taxes or not and deal with iron hands with every defaulter and take action against
him/her according to law.
Q: What is Income Tax Return?
A: income tax return is a legal obligation of every citizen of every country Where he is a resident,
that he should declare his all incomes which he earn during a fiscal year, all expenses which he
occurred, all assets which he purchased, all liabilities which he borrow. “A fiscal year according
to Pakistan is from July to June of every year.”
In simple words, Income tax return is a document include your earnings detail, expenses detail,
assets increase or decrease details and Advance Income Tax which you have paid against your
Salary, Bank Transactions, Electricity Bills, Telephone Bills, Mobiles Bills/Easy load and Gas Bills.
Q: Who is called “Filler”?
A: It’s a general phenomenon that a person who is paying tax on his income is a “Filer”. But in
real sense a “Filer” is a person who is submitting detail of his all incomes with all expenses, all
assets increase or decrease details with all Labilities increase or decrease details to Federal
Board of Revenue (FBR) after every fiscal year within due date.

Q: Why it is necessary to submit a return?
A: When we analyze our countries economy that is it on a right way or we must take some bold
step to bring the economy on right path we always examine some Economic Indicators i.e. GDP,
Tax to GDP, Per Capita Income, etc. These indicators are calculated through calculations of
whole country income and to calculate Whole Country Income different methods are adopted in
which Income Tax Return is a major part of it. If we don’t submit it our income can never be
defined in actual, our Leaders who are responsible to put economy on right direction, they can’t
take right decision and may be they overload all the nation because they have not right data to
take right decision.

Q: Who must file their return?
A: a person who is older than 18 years and NADRA have issued an Identification number. Doesn’t
matter he/she is earning. She must file his return.

Q: Can a student also be responsible for file their return?


A: As I stated above that every person who is older than 18 years must file their return. Moreover,
it can be a cause of yearly gift for a student, How, when a student file his return to the FBR he will
show his advance income taxes which he is paying on his mobile phone bills, PTCL/ADSL bills.
Which are refundable, incase he has no taxable income, can be his yearly gift by the government.
Q: Which type of figure can be calculated if all the citizen having identification number file
their return?
A: Dear Customer, when we file true return to FBR it can be helpful to the government to calculate
following data of Pakistani Citizens which can be helpful for them to take right decision,

• Number of Citizens who have Zero Income and not paying Advance Income Tax
• Number of Citizens who have Zero Income but paying Advance Income Tax I.e. Students,
Un-Employed Person
• Number of Citizens who have Below the tax (BTL) Income, For Example Les then 600,000
Rupees per year (Salary Person) 400,000 rupees per year (Business Income)
• Number of Citizens who have Taxable income and paying taxes on it. i.e. More than
600,000 Rupees per year (Salary Person) 400,000 rupees per year (Business Income)
• Total Gross Domestic Product (GDP) which will be shown true and fair value of Economy
• Tax to GDP ratio will be improve which will raise our image in front of world
Above mentioned data are few examples.
Q: What if now I’m not filing my return?
