FINAL DEFENSE REMINDERS

THINGS TO DO (Check each box as you accomplish every task):

Before the Presentation: Prepping the Paper

 Do a grammar and spelling check. Panelists find typographical and grammatical

errors distracting.
 Double-check the format of the paper (spacing, margins, etc.) to ensure that
follows the format prescribed in class.
 Complete your Chapters 1-5.
 References must be in APA 7th Edition and must be indicated in a separate page
which must be seen after Chapter 5.
 Check your Acknowledgement, Abstract, Table of Contents and Appendices
 The approval, informed letter, and research instrument (questionnaire) must also
be attached in the Appendices.
 Make a NAME PLATE 2 by 8 inches (5.08 cm × 20.32 cm)

 Print 3 copies of the final version of your research paper.

 Print 4 copies of Evaluation Forms.

Before the Presentation: Planning the Presentation:

Use the IMRaD Format in your PowerPoint.
 Take note of the sections of the that you will need to present:

1. Start by presenting the title of the research.

2. Proceed with a brief background of the study. Followed by the statement of the
problem. (INTRODUCTION)
3. Discuss the content of your CHAPTER 3 (Research Method, Research Design,
Participants of the Study, Sampling Procedure, Research Instrument, and Data
Gathering Procedure)
4. Discuss CHAPTER 4 it will include the results, conclusion and recommendation.

 Determine who will be doing the presentation and devise how the parts will be
discussed in such a way that the whole presentation will be cohesive.

 Construct the slideshow presentation to highlight only the important sentences of

your paper. BE MINIMALIST IN THE DESIGN. No font smaller than 24.

 Take note that your presentation must not exceed 20 minutes. Practice the whole
process and time yourself. Edit the presentation, if necessary, to maximize the time
you have. 20 minutes for the defense.

 All members of the research team must be in BUSINESS ATTIRE, must study and be
prepared to answer the questions that the panel members will be asking. If you want,
you may assign every member to a section or several sections of the paper and
whichever section is relevant to the question raised, the member assigned to it must
respond.

On the Day of the Presentation

 See Ms. Shiela at 6:30 AM at Room 1 for a final briefing on the final defense.
Submit the 3 copies of your research paper to her and 4 copies of Evaluation form.
 Be at the presentation venue at least 30 minutes before the start of your
presentation.

After the defense

 Revise the parts that you need to change.
 Add your ABSTRACT in your research paper.

Abstract summarizes, usually in one paragraph of 300 words or less, the

major aspects of the entire paper in a prescribed sequence that includes:
1) the overall purpose of the study and the research problem(s) you
investigated.
2) the basic design of the study. (Research design, method, participants,
instrument and sampling)
3) major findings or trends found as a result of your analysis; and,
4) a summary of your interpretations and conclusions. (align with your
SOP)
