SILENCED BY SILENCE

Is a deep poem that tells the story of a person's life with filled struggles and unfairness. From a young
age, the main character faces poverty and hunger, which are represented as a scary black cat and sad
people living in the creek. As they grow up, they witness tragic events and realize how cruel the world
can be.

The decay of their in safe haven, a tree house shows how innocence fades away in the face of injustice.
The encounter with authority figures, like the silent killer, highlights the imbalances in society. The poem
ends with a main character questioning a friend's actions, reflecting on how hard it is to find a comfort in
a world full of suffering.

1. What are the differences between economic classes? What conflict has arisen between the
working class and the elite?

- In Silenced by Silence, the main character represents the working class and faces problems
because they don’t have much money. Theres a big problem between poor people like the main
character and rich people or those in charge.

2. What social class has been emphasized and how was this portrayed in the piece?

- The main character is poor, and the story shows how tough life can be for people like them. The
author talks about how society treats different classes and why that's not fair.

3. Who has power in the text? How do they maintain and/or gain power?

- Even though life is tough the main character tries to keep going. The story also talks about how
things could be better if people realized how unfair the system is and tried to change it.
