Desktop Workspace.
Practical No. 1
Step 1 :- Open Google Chrome → Search for “Tableau Public” as shown in Figure 1.1 & Click on
“Sign-up for Tableau public” as shown in Figure 1.2.
Step 2 :- Create your Tableau Account as shown in Figure 1.3 you will get Thank You Message as
shown in Figure 1.4.

Step 5 :- After successfully creation of your account Click on “Download Tableau Public” as shown
in Figure 1.5.
Step 6 :- Double Click on the downloaded Tableau.exe file and Click on "Install" as shown in Figure
1.6. You will get installation processing window as shown in Figure 1.7.

dataset then Drag & Drop Orders Sheet on blank screen as shown in Figure 4.7.1.

Step (b).2.2 :- Now go to Analysis tab → select Create Calculated Field → type LEN([Sub-
Category]) → Click Apply & OK as shown in Figure 4(b).2.3. You will get output
as shown in Figure 4(b).2.4.
Step (b).2.3. :- For actual count of word go to SUM(LEN) → right Click and select Attribute.
3. Left
Step (b).3.1 :- Follow step (b).2.1 & step (b).2.2 to get table of Sub-Category → go to Analysis
tab → select Create Calculated Field → Type LEFT([Sub-Category],4) → Click
Apply & OK as shown in Figure 4(b).3.1. You will get first 4 letter of word from
left side as shown in Figure 4(b)3.2.
4. Right
Step (b).4.1 :- Follow step (b).2.1 & step (b).2.2 to get table of Sub-Category → go to Analysis
tab → select Create Calculated Field → Type RIGHT([Sub-Category],5) → Click
Apply & OK as shown in Figure 4(b).4.1. You will get last 4 letter of word from
right side as shown in Figure 4(b)4.2.
5. Ltrim
Step (b).5.1 :- Follow step (b).2.1 & step (b).2.2 to get table of Sub-Category → go to Analysis
tab → select Create Calculated Field → Type LTRIM([Region]) → Click Apply
& OK as shown in Figure 4(b).5.1. You will get word after removing blank space
from left side as shown in Figure 4(b).5.2.
c) Date Functions
1. Dateadd
Step (c).1.1 :- Open tableau public → Click on Microsoft Excel → add “Sample - Superstore.xls”
→ Drag & Drop Orders Sheet as Data source → go to Sheet1 → Drag & Drop Ship
Date in Rows Field as shown in Figure 4(c).1.1.
Step (c).1.2 :- In this step convert YEAR(Ship Date) to particular Day by Right Clicking on
YEAR(Ship Date) → Exact Date format & data type as discrete. You will get
particular date as shown in Figure 4(c).2.2.
Step (c).1.3 :- Then go to Analysis tab and select Create Calculated Field → Type
DATEADD(‘month,3,#2016#) → Click apply & OK as shown in Figure 4(c).1.3

Step (c).3.2 :- In this step convert YEAR(Ship Date) to particular Day by Right Clicking on

Step (c).4.1 :- Open tableau public → Click on Microsoft Excel → add “Sample - Superstore.xls”
→ Drag & Drop Orders Sheet as Data source → go to Sheet1 → Drag & Drop Ship
Date in Rows Field as shown in Figure 4(c).4.1.
Step (c).4.2 :- In this step convert YEAR(Ship Date) to particular Day by Right Click ing on
YEAR(Ship Date) → Day (Month Date , Year) format & data type as discrete. You
will get particular date as shown in Figure 4(c).4.2.

d) Calculation
1. Grand Total
Step (d).1.1 :- Open tableau public → Click on Microsoft Excel → add “Sample - Superstore.xls”
→ Drag & Drop Orders Sheet as Data source → go to Sheet1 → Drag & Drop
Category in Rows Field → Drag & Drop SUM(Sales) on Category Table as shown
in Figure 4(d).1.1.

Step (d).1.2 :- Then go to Analysis tab → select Totals → Show Row Grand Totals as shown in
Figure 4(d).1.2 You will get Grand Total as shown in Figure 4(d).1.3.
Step (d).1.3 :- Now Right Click on SUM(Sales) → Quick Table Calculation → Percent of Total as
shown in Figure 4(d).1.4 You will get percentage of Grand Total as shown in

2. Percent
Step 4(d).2.1 : Open tableau public → Click on Microsoft Excel → add “Sample - Superstore.xls”
→ Drag & Drop Orders Sheet as Data source → go to Sheet1 → Drag & Drop
SUM(Sales) in Rows Field → YEAR(Order Date) in Columns Field as shown in
Figure 4(d).2.1 → go to Marks → select Bar as shown in Figure 4(d).2.2.
Step (d).2.2 :- Again Drag & Drop SUM(Sales) → Click on Show/Hide Mark Labels You will
get exact Numeric value of each bar as shown in Figure 4(d).2.5.
Step (d).2.3 :- Right Click on second SUM(Sales) → Quick Table Calculation → Click on Percent
of Total You will get percentage of each bar as shown in Figure 4(d).2.5.

a) Dimension Filter.
1. General
Step(a)1.1 :- Open tableau public → Click on Microsoft Excel → add “Sample - Superstore.xls”
→ Drag & Drop Orders sheet as Data source → go to Sheet1.
Step(a)1.2 :- Now in Sheet1 Drag & Drop Ship Mode , Sub-Category in Rows Field &
SUM(Profit) in Column Field. You will get window as shown in Figure 5(a).1.1.
