“WHO IS JOJI?”
He gained audiences' attention with his unique blend of melancholic melodies, self-
reflective lyrics, and peculiar production. From his humble beginnings as a YouTube
personality to his spectacular rise as a respected musician.

FROM FILTHY FRANK TO JOJI

George Miller, also known as Joji, was born in
Osaka, Japan, and was raised in Australia. In
2011, after moving to the United States, he
started showing his comedic alter ego and
became a YouTube personality named “Filthy
Frank," “Papa Franku," “Pink Guy," “Chin Chin,"
and many more. His alias “Pink Guy'' became
the way for him to discover and explore the
music industry, blending elements of hip-hop,
lo-fi, and experimental electronic music. His
debut project, "Pink Season," showcased his
creativity as an artist.

After making tons of comedic content, he

ended “The Filthy Frank Show," which made
him shift his voice to the low-pitch and high-
pitch he'd used for the characters that had
actually caused him throat tissue damage and
pre-existing neurological conditions that made
it difficult for him to continue the content.

However, after having health issues, it does

not stop him from making his own title. In late
2017, George ended “The Filthy Frank Show”
to pursue a music career under the name
"Joji." He produced his debut album, “Ballad
1,” which was released in 2018 and featured
the single "Slow Dancing in the Dark.".

Allegedly, “Chloe Burbank Vol. 1”

was a potential first album under
Joji’s name during his Filthy Frank
days in 2015. The two most
remarkable songs from the album,
“thom” and “you suck Charlie,” were
released, but because of the release
of the EP In Tongues, it is said that
the album will never be released in
full.

He continued to push the

boundaries of his music,
experimenting with different genres
and collaborating with different
artists. With his album, "Nectar,"
released in 2020, he also
showcased his growth as a musician
and embodied indie rock,
alternative R&B, and electronic
music.

Joji established himself in the

industry by combining genres and
pushing boundaries to produce a
sound that is all his own. Beyond his
music, his authenticity and
vulnerability have resonated with
fans around the world, inspiring a
fandom known as the "JojiGang."
Through his open interviews and
reflective lyrics, Joji has opened up
about his struggles with mental
health, identity, and the pressures
of fame, expectations, and a sense
of connection and understanding
with his audience.
