INTRUCTIONS for HOMEWORKS (Master in Statistics & Operations Research, MESIO)

These are the instructions for tasks 1 and 2 of the course.

Homework 1

Part A: Formulate 3 to 5 business questions or topics that you consider relevant based on the
metadata and description of "Credsco" problem available at our internal website:

https://www-eio.upc.edu/teaching/DocenciaMultivariant/DocenciaMasters/AMD-MESIO/

Note: Here, you have some additional options: (a) Using Credsco Raw Data without preprocessing
(if you want to include a quality report of the data or in case your business questions include topics
on data quality) and also Credsco clean dataset to combine your analysis (b) Proceed directly with
Credsco clean dataset to complete part 1 of the homework.

Part B: Answer your questions (Part A) by applying Multivariate Descriptive Analysis (Visualization
tools, descriptive statistics reports and/or basic inference tests) and get knowledge, conclusions or
suggestions to support future analysis and decisions for the final user (Credsco owner) (Tell him
some business highlights obtained from your analysis)

Homework 2

Preliminaries: Choose an open dataset (from open data resources as mentioned in class: Kaggle,
open data Spain, uci machine learning repository or similar). This dataset should contain numerical
and categorical variables (at least 6 numerical and 4 categorical).

Part A: Perform a complete PCA Analysis by following our both scripts (companies script and/or
Credsco PCA script)

Part B: Perform an MCA Analysis by following our script given in class.

Part C: Compare results from A and B (check categorical features by following the same criteria
illustrated in our plots (PCA Credsco Analysis) versus MCA patterns obtained from part B.

FINAL CONSIDERATIONS.

1) Deadline for both homework is on March 23 (7.30pm) after our partial test. You can also
deliver these homework before this deadline by email (dante.conti@upc.edu).
2) You can work alone or with another student (in this case the same couple has to work within
both homework. Changes are not accepted)
3) Finally, you can also have earlier feedback of your homework before delivering them by
talking with me after theoretical session (Tuesdays).
4) Following our calendar, the partial test has been scheduled on March 23 at 6.00 pm.
5) [Reminder] Evaluation (first part of the course) has a 50% weight of the total grade. This
50% is decomposed by 35 % (partial test) and 15% (average on homework 1 and 2).
