BSE VISIT SESSION

DATE: 13.09.2023

The second-year MBA Finance students of our institute visited the BSE (Bombay Stock
Exchange) office in Kolkata,
Camac Street on 8th August.
Their visit was not just an
excursion but a beneficial
learning experience that aimed
to expose them to the
intricacies of the stock market.
Today, a session was organized
for the first-year MBA
students, during which the
senior students, in the presence
of our esteemed professors, Dr. Professor Banhi Guha and Dr. Professor Tutun Mukherjee
shared their insights and experiences garnered from the BSE visit.

Session Highlights

The session commenced with an

informative introduction provided by
Sneha Prabha Sarkar. She began by
elucidating the concept of the share
market, showcasing the significance of
the financial landscape. She proceeded
to explain the BSE (Bombay Stock
Exchange) and mentioned its
counterpart, the NSE (National Stock
Exchange), emphasizing that these
two are the primary stock exchanges
in India. To provide context, she delved into a brief history of BSE, offering the audience a
glimpse into its evolution.
Following this, Suman Kumar Dey took the stage to discuss the introduction to the
securities market. Dey introduced the concept of derivatives and elucidated their role in
the securities market. He
explored the various
participants in the security
market, shedding light on the
vital role they play in its
functioning. He further
explained the significance of
forwards and futures
contracts, underlining their
importance in risk
management and hedging
strategies within the stock
market.

Manoj Mohanta then took over to impart knowledge on fundamental analysis. He

explained the need for fundamental analysis in assessing the true value of a company's
stock. He dived into key financial ratios,
including the price-to-earnings (P/E)
ratio, price-to-book (P/B) ratio, debt
liquidity ratio, and current ratio. To
illustrate these concepts, he presented
practical examples, using ITC stock as a
case study, providing valuable insights
into how to evaluate a company's
financial health and make informed
investment decisions.

Concluding the session, Akash Almal delved into the world of technical analysis in stock
trading. He elucidated the significance of chart patterns and trading indicators such as
simple moving averages (SMA), exponential moving averages (EMA), and the Moving
Average Convergence Divergence (MACD). He provided a practical demonstration by
analyzing the chart of MRF, a prominent stock, using these technical indicators. This
segment of the session was particularly engaging, as it offered students valuable insights
into the technical aspects of stock trading. He also exhibited a video for the better
understanding of futures & options and its function.
Conclusion

In conclusion, the knowledge-sharing session at our institute following the visit to BSE
was an enriching experience for the first-year MBA students. The second-year students, in
collaboration with our esteemed professors, made a commendable effort to share their
understanding of the stock market. The session covered a wide spectrum of topics,
ranging from the basics of share markets to the complexities of fundamental and technical
