NPSH margin ratio and NPSH margin

This stuff is for the experts diving deep into the theory of centrifugal pumps.

A guide for NPSH MARGIN is available for Rotodynamic pumps, the ANSI/HI 9.6.1-2017.

In this document, they talk about:

- NPSH margin = NPSHa - NPSH3
- NPSH margin ratio = NPSHa / NPSH3

In case we are talking about the NPSH margin water/wastewater pumps, you can have a table like
this:
- Application: Wastewater, pump impeller made of cast iron
- Power per stage: > 45 kW
- NPSH margin ratio: 1.3
- NPSH margin minimum: 1.5 m (4,9 ft)

Example:
- NPSHa calculated: 5.11 m
- NPSHr from pump curve: 3.9 m
- NPSH margin: 5.11 - 3.9 = 1.21
- NPSH margin ratio: 5.11 / 3.9 = 1.31

For this application, the following information can be found:

- NPSH margin minimum: 1.5 m (4,9 ft)
- NPSH margin ratio: 1.3

Question:
The difference between NPSHa and NPSHr is 1.21 m, so the NPSH margin is not a minimum of
1.5. This is not correct, according to the ANSI.
The NPSH margin ratio must be 1.3 and is, in our example, 1.31. Correct according to the ANSI.
What is leading according to the ANSI/HI 9.6.1-2017, the NPSH margin minimum of 1.5 m or the
NPSH margin ratio of 1.3?

Who has the correct answer to this question?

I hope to hear from you.
