Chinese cabbage is either of two cultivar groups of leaf vegetables often used in Chinese

cuisine: the Pekinensis Group (napa cabbage) and the Chinensis Group (bok choy). It is also one
of the most important vegetables in eastern asia.

Scientific name is Brassica rapa. Chinese Cabbage is also Napa cabbage.

The crop originated in China and is believed to have been derived from a cross between the
Chinensis form from the south and the turnip from the north. They are the most widely grown
vegetable in China and in northern areas of the country account for more than one-quarter of
the total annual vegetable consumption. Other major areas of production include Korea and
Taiwan. They are also cultivated throughout the world and in recent years have become firmly
established as an important vegetable crop. The Chinese cabbage occurs in both annual and
biennial forms but is cultivated as an annual.

oblong, large-headed cabbage has firmly packed, crinkly, pale green, thickly veined leaves and a
white stalk (hence the alternative name "celery cabbage"). Chinese cabbage is a perfect
vegetable choice if you're on a budget or feeding a crowd—it's nutritious, inexpensive when
compared to a lot of other vegetables, and it's filling. It's also rated by gardeners as a vegetable
that's easy to grow.
