Potential Use of Chat GPT in Global Warming

By Dr. Som Biswas

Introduction:
Climate change is a global challenge that requires the integration of various scientific
disciplines. Artificial intelligence and natural language processing technologies can play a
critical role in understanding and modeling future climate conditions, which is what already
got to Chris huntingford, Elizabeth S Jeffers, Michael B Bonsall and the rest of the authors in
their article “Machine learning and artificial intelligence to aid climate change research and
preparedness.”
Also, Christopher kadow, David Matthew Hall and Uwe Ulbrich did demonstrate that artificial
intelligence can skilfully fill these observational gaps when combined with numerical climate
model data. We show that recently developed image inpainting techniques perform accurate
monthly reconstructions in their article “Artificial intelligence reconstructs missing climate
information.”
And finally, we find that Tae Ho Woo answered the question of How can emerging
technologies, particularly machine learning and game theory, be applied to address the
challenges of climate change in the energy industry? In his article “Artificial intelligence-
based modeling for global warming analysis incorporated with the nuclear energy
productions” as he stated that the machine learning is used for the reliability of the nuclear
energy productions where the game theory is incorporated with neural networking
algorithm. As a major non-carbon production energy source, the nuclear power would be
developed with the regeneration energy instead of the fossil fuels such as oil or gas.
The author here poses another question related to these articles, yet no one has yet posed
which is “Can ChatGPT be used for climate change?”

The approach:
To gain knowledge, the author has inquired about ChatGPT’s potential use for climate
change. It lists both possible and feasible uses, some of which are possible right now.
The writer has scrutinized and revised the GPT chat replies.

Methodology:
In this article the author chose to work on the use of ChatGPT in the subject of climate
change to see ways to aid climate research and improve the accuracy of climate projections
using ChatGPT itself. ChatGPT is an AI and NLP (Natural Language Processing) technology that
can aid model parameterization, data analysis, and scenario generation, providing more

accurate results and insights into climate trends. It can also evaluate climate models and
process enormous amounts of data to identify patterns and trends.

Result:
The author studied and altered the ChatGPT responses. ChatGPT and similar language
models can be utilized to enhance climate change studies in a variety of ways such as;
utilizing ChatGPT for data analysis and interpretation, researchers can effectively analyze
large datasets concerning climate change, enabling them to make predictions based on the
acquired information, employing ChatGPT for communication and outreach allows for the
effective conveyance of intricate climate change facts to a broader audience in an
understandable and accessible manner. It can provide decision-makers with crucial
information and recommendations to assist in addressing the challenges posed by climate
change. Leveraging ChatGPT for climate scenario production involves generating climate
scenarios from inputted data, offering valuable insights that can inform policy decisions.
Yet there are some disadvantages for using it in climate change research like.
Contextual awareness limitations: Due to the multifaceted nature of climate change, it may
struggle to understand the context in which questions are presented.
Bias in training data : GPT's extensive dataset may introduce biases and inaccuracies,
potentially reflected in its responses.
Lack of accountability : As an AI model, GPT lacks human accountability, raising ethical
concerns.
Limited expertise scope : While having a vast knowledge base, GPT's expertise is confined to
its training data, possibly lacking the latest information on climate change research.

Conclusion/ Discussion:
Finally, we have the answer to the hypothesis that Chat GPT can be used in climate change
research. The incorporation of ChatGPT and other AI and NLP technologies in climate change
research offers a promising avenue for advancing our understanding of this complex
phenomenon. The potential to process extensive datasets, generate scenarios, and evaluate
climate models introduces a valuable dimension to the tools available for researchers and
policymakers. The insights gained from these technologies can contribute to more accurate
climate projections, aiding in the formulation of informed policies and strategies.
However, it is imperative to exercise caution when interpreting the results derived from
these technologies. Their integration into traditional climate modeling methods is crucial for
ensuring the reliability and robustness of the findings.
