Dwarka: India’s lost city

We all know about the Dwarkadhish temple. But have

we ever wondered about the mystery that lies within it?
Let’s unfold it!
According to Mahabharata, Dwarka was a fortified city
which was spread across 84 kilometres. After the death
of lord Krishna’s this ancient city was submerged by
sea.

In 1979 few archaeologists got an opportunity to

excavate Dwarka. They managed to pull down a
panchayat office nearby the Dwarkadhish temple. After
the demolition, few ancient sculptures were recovered
and a stone platform was found, covering something
underneath. And after much hesitation when they
removed it, they were taken aback!
They found a well preserved Vishnu temple underneath
it. And when they excavated further, they found three
temples layered one by one!
Finally, from this excavation they concluded that there
were totally 8 Dwarakas.The 3 temples mentioned
earlier were destroyed by the sea which we now call as
the submerged city of India!
