Name: ____________________________ Date Submitted: ____________________

Subject - Section: ___________________ Grade: ____________

Instructions: Download this Seat Work on a short bond paper & answer this manually using
this questionnaire as your answer sheet. You can use extra bond papers in between problems.
Answer the following problem & show your complete solutions. Accomplished Seat Works
will be submitted at our next F2F meeting.

The truss structure w/c is represented is a wing drag bracing truss subjected to chordwise load
w/ F1F4 represents the front spar of the wing; R1F2, R2F3, & R3F4 the drag brace wires; R2F2 &
R3F3 the drag struts; and R1R3 the rear spar.

Neglecting the weights of each member, determine:

- Reaction of the front spars F2F3 and F3F4, the drag struts R3F3, the rear spar R2R3 & drag
brace wire R2F3, & R3F4.
- Axial stresses of the front spars F2F3 and F3F4, the drag struts R3F3, the rear spar R2R3&
drag brace wire R2F3, & R3F4.
- Front spar area: 2 in2
- Drag brace wire: 1.75 in2
- Rear spar area: 1.5 in2
- Drag strut: 2.5 in2
- Factor of safety of the front spars F2F3 and F3F4, the drag struts R3F3, the rear spar R2R3 &
drag brace wire R2F3, & R3F4 if the maximum allowable axial tensile stress is 15000 psi &
the maximum allowable axial compressive stress is 10000 psi.
