The day the plans fell through

Night on the mortal plane. A dark figure sat at the ruins of the temple of the
god Erebos, his eyes gleaming like emeralds in the murky gloom of midnight. Kairan
was sharpening his katana, looking at the runes that had once glowed purple but were
now faded. He sensed that the magic within him was fading. Shadar-kai had been
searching for a way to heal or rather save himself since his youth. The tattoos on his
body blazed blue like flames from the lands of eternal cold. Cairan had given himself
in loyal service to almost every god he could find, he had sacrificed everything he
had. The demon had taken his family, and now it was eating the rest of the once
brave warrior's mind.

Cairo's lost everything. Those he could rightfully call friends are dead. Darwen was
mauled by a dragon. The young barbarian didn't even think to scream in pain, he just
laughed maniacally. In his mind, he remembered the picture of the fiery red hair of
that foolish man being burned away and the blue tribal paint mixed with dirt and
blood.

Rorick was killed by Black Rock mercenaries. Gitzerai made enemies wherever he
could in his youth. His magic couldn't stop the hail of bolts. His thin, decrepit body
was nailed to the trunk of a spruce tree, and his eyes were aptly knocked out by two
wyvern venom shells. All that was left of his skull was a toxic bloody mess.

But he won't forgive himself for the day he lost her...Sybella.

The young elven girl had been rescued by his squad last year. The young medicine girl
had helped Kieran with his seizures, kept the demon attacks away from him. But she
was able to melt his heart. Loyal to the Raven Queen, sharing a body with a devil's
spawn, he'd forgotten what love was. And he forgot again when Sybella died in his
arms with her throat cut. Which she had cut open. Her curls as black as this night
flowed over the skin of his hand, and her once blue eyes faded to gray. He hadn't
forgiven himself, hadn't forgiven anyone.

A crackle of electricity was heard behind him, and then the wind blew. An avatar of
Mogis, god of bloodshed, emerged from the storm behind Cairan's back. The blood-red
bull breathed fire, searching out the one his "father" had sent to kill. Shadar-kai
decided not to delay his fate. Any minute now, his body would be taken over by a
demonic entity, and he himself would not be honored by the shadow plan. Slipping his
katana into its scabbard, he staggered out onto the spacious plaza covered with fallen
leaves and marble masonry.

"Attack, spawn of the underworld."
