Option 1:​​ One prominent theme in Judaism is “chosenness.” Examine the meaning of
chosenness in the context of Judaism using examples from scripture, rituals and history.

Option 2:​​ In the book of Genesis, Jacob engages in a wrestling match with God. God names
Jacob Israel which means, “one who wrestles with God.” Explain why the theme of
wrestling/wrestling with God is so important to Judaism using examples from scripture,
rituals and history.

Option 3​​: How has the struggle for a “homeland” been (and continues to be) a common
theme in Judaism? Use examples from scripture, rituals that celebrate the return to
“homeland” and events in history.
