The country was part of the ‘Great Silk Road’ (The Great Silk Road is a system of caravan routes
crossing in ancient and middle age time Eurasian continent from Mediterranean Sea to China)

A lot of tribes lived in Uzbekistan. The country was also ruled


by the Iranian Achaemenid Empire, Greco-Bactrian Kingdom,
by the Iranian Parthian Empire and later by the Sasanian Empire,
until the Muslim conquest of Persia in the XVII century

During Amir Temur’s government, in the XIV century, Samarkand


became the capital of the country.
During the USSR government
Before the USSR even exist, Uzbekistan suffered an invasion of the Russian Empire in the
60s of the XIX century.
Introduction
In 1924, Uzbekistan became part of the Soviet Republic, during the USSR government the Aral
Sea was used to irrigate water to the cotton fields. Due to the Heavy use of pesticides and
fertilisers for cotton growing, all the fauna and flora was killed and now the Aral Sea has
shrunk to about 10% of its former area.

In August 1991, Uzbekistan gained its independence.
