CHAPTER I

THE PROBLEM

Introduction

The COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc on most parts of people's lives,

including their capacity to buy products. Government-imposed restrictions have kept

people at home, hindering normal business. Many local grocery stores have closed as a

result of changing shopping trends. Some essential companies, such as pharmacies

and supermarkets, have stayed open, but with shortened hours.

Many eateries have gone out of business or rely on takeout to keep afloat. Home

delivery has given a solution to some of the difficulties presented by COVID-19 for many

clients. E-commerce and home delivery can be a practical alternative for professionals

who are required to work remotely, as well as a variety of other groups, such as parents

who must manage work and childcare responsibilities, or those who are at danger of

major COVID19 health-related difficulties.

Review of Related Literature

Electrical-commerce sales in the United States (US) have increased at double-

digit rates for the previous two decades, according to the United States Quarterly E-

Commerce Report. E-commerce growth has exceeded brick-and-mortar retail growth

during this time (US Department of Commerce, 2020). Since it has the greatest market

share in the United States, Amazon is frequently referenced when discussing e-

commerce. The option of free shipping on many sorts of items is a big appeal for

Amazon Prime members. In the United States, Amazon Prime membership has

increased from 50 million in late 2015 to 112 million as of December 2019. (Fortune,

2020).

The Covid-19 pandemic had an impact on the economy in terms of supply and

demand, as well as transportation, according to a report from the Organization for

Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Companies are reducing the supply

of raw materials and unhealthy labor, as well as supply networks that are also

encountering difficulties, on the supply side. On the demand side, a lack of demand and

a reduction in consumer confidence in a product, as well as transportation during the

pandemic, has a significant impact on MSME businesses. This is due to the fact that

many people choose to stay at home. MSMEs, according to the OECD, have a

substantial impact on Covid-19 circumstances. MSMEs are particularly vulnerable to

business disruption (McKibbin, WJ, and Fernando, R.) (2020).

Review of Related studies

E-commerce is currently the reincarnation of olden day gold mines in terms of

commercial activity and transactions, which proven to be the source of wealth and

fortunes for individuals and businesses from all over the world. As online sites and

mobile applications such as Amazon, eBay, Alibaba, Uber, Etsy, and others have risen

to prominence, helping their owners and operators become multi-millionaires and

billionaires, brick-and-mortar stores have struggled to stay afloat, with many of them

closing their doors permanently due to their inability to keep up with the modern trend of

on-line transactions. We don't have to look far to see this trend, as all those malls, one

after the other, are being shuttered and abandoned, much like the Greek Parthenon,

which was once beautiful but has now been stripped of its glory, most likely for good. In

this way, while the mentioned web sites dominate the sector, they are far from the only

players with the ever and consistently profitable online business environment.

Chapter III

Methodology

This particular chapter discuss the various aspects of the research methodology,

namely: research design, participants of the study, locale of the study, data collection

procedures, data analysis process, and ethical consideration.

Research Design

This study will utilize a qualitative research approach this is especially useful in

discovering the meaning that people give to events that they experience.

Phenomenological research design will be also used in understanding the usefulness of

delivery services. This is effective in studying a small number of participants-in this case

5 respondents are needed for us to identify the core of their experiences in this

phenomena.

Phenomenology is a science that focuses on identifying phenomena and

understanding the structure of subjective experiences. It was founded by Edmund

Husserl and Martin Heideggar in the early twentieth century and is based on philosophy.

Phenomenology is a term used to describe the common properties of a phenomenon in

detail. In-depth interviews are the major data collection strategy.

Locale of the Study

The research is carried out at Notre Dame Siena School of Marbel in Koronadal

City, South Cotabato. The researchers picked Notre Dame Siena School of Marbel as

the study's location because they wanted to learn about the advantages and

disadvantages of the Delivery Services in Koronadal City.

Participants of the Study

The participants of the study are composed of 5 customers. The following

participants that will take part in this study should all be qualified to the set of inclusion

criteria or characteristics such as: the participants should be age ranging from 18 to 30

years old; they should be living in South Cotabato; and they should have experienced

the feeling of having delivery services.

Research Instruments

Modern interviews will be used in this research. The researchers will discover

that the individual strategy is best for collecting raw data from participants. Self-made

interview guide questions will be developed and based on the research's specific goal.

There will be a minimum of three important questions, each will be translated to the

language that is familiar to the participants. Validation from the linked field will then be

applied to the questions. For documentation and reference, audio recorders will be

used. After then, the information gathered will be transcribed.

Data Collection Procedure

Initially, the researchers requested permission to conduct research from the

Principal of the NDSSM SHS Department. Second, the researchers will create guiding

questions, and then they will locate a validator to validate their self-created questions.

The researchers will next proceed to collect data using a Google form after checking the

guide questions. The researchers will discuss the value of the interview while collecting

data. The researchers will next write down and record the responses of the

respondents. After performing the interview, the researcher will assess the information

gathered.

Data Analysis Technique

The researcher used thematic analysis to their study. The study was conducted utilizing

a phenomenological approach and current interviews, in which people are individually

interrogated via electronic and technical communication equipment. Questions are

planned and created in advance while doing structured interviews. The same questions

are asked to all respondents in the same order. They discover the concept and coding

while looking for precise terms to solve the problem.

Ethical Consideration

The information acquired from respondents through interviews will be kept

confidential and utilized just for this research study. No one will be allowed to use the

information gathered for any other reason. The participants or respondents are well-

informed about the study, understand the material, and have the power of choice to

allow them to make their own judgments and express their own thoughts.

The research protects human subjects by following and applying relevant ethical

norms; nonetheless, because of the depth of nature, this research has a special

resonance. Due to the researchers' rules, the concerned ethical problem was not

conducted face-to-face. The purpose of this paper is to offer real-life experiences
