LEARNING A FOREIGN LANGUAGE IN ITALY

INTRODUCTION
The aim of this report is to inform you about the different foreign languages that are learned
in Italy and point out the (walks of life) TYPES of people that study them . It is also intended
to suggest other(not appropriate) methods in order to improve language learning.
MOST LEARNED LANGUAGES
English is the most studied language in Italy just like in the rest of the world. It is in fact an
international language that allows us to communicate with the majority of countries.
Moreover Italy is part of the EU and therefore it is fundamental to know English or German
in order to be able to be involved in foreign affairs.
WHO LEARNS THESE LANGUAGES
Young people often represent the majority of those who study English because they tend
to travel more and they might even make friends abroad.. For this reason they use English to
keep in touch with them.
However, even adults may want to learn a language, due to the fact that it is a basic
requirement if you want to be hired in most firms and companies.
WHERE THESE LANGUAGES ARE TAUGHT
Language learning is an essential skill that is part of our school systems. In fact we start to
study English in elementary school and in middle school we have the opportunity to choose
a third one which is studied for the remaining school years.
RECOMMENDED CHANGES
Even though we start to study a language from a very young age the amounts number of
weekly hours at school are not sufficient to make us achieve an appropriate level. Hence I
would recommend increasing the hours of learning them.
