1 Performance of Microwave Device
There are two kind of performance of Trans device:
Traditional SDH(Synchronous Digital Hierarchy)/IF Performance
RMON(Remote Network Monitoring) Performance

Difference:
1. SDH/IF performance is biased towards counting and RMON performance is biased towards
measurement, so the indicator is different.
2. Different standard, SDH/IF performance is refer: G.784 and G.874, RMON performance is refer
IETF RFC2819.
3. SDH/IF performance support Current Performance, RMON performance support real time
performance. So what’s will happen at PMS instance?
4. Different function entry at NCE

The basic requirements of Performance collection:
NE Time Synchronization

1.1 NE Performance Monitoring Time
Enable Performance Monitoring(NE settings)
After the start time of performance monitoring is set on the NMS, the historical performance data on the host starts from the period
closest to the set time. For example, if the monitoring starts from 14:01, the 15-minute historical performance data is reported from
14:00, and then 14:15 and 14:30, but the data of 14:00 is incomplete. If the monitoring starts from 14:14, the 15-minute historical
performance data collected on the device starts from 14:15.

1.1 NE Performance
Performance Type
Measurement event
To locate the device that needs to be adjusted and adjusted, for example, the threshold flaps or drifts, you need to
measure the physical parameters of the device. For example, measure the TX/RF power, gain, and temperature. These
values are measured periodically. External NEs should also record the highest and lowest values in the 15-minute or
24-hour measurement period. By analyzing the highest and lowest values, maintenance personnel can adjust the
equipment.

Counting performance events

Major SDH/IF counting performance events include errored second (ES), severely errored second (SES), and
background block errored (BBE).
Bit error: Bit error refers to the error of some bits in the digital bit stream after receiving, determining, and regenerating,
which damages the quality of transmitted information.

UAT and CSES events

Different from "count" and "measurement" performance events, these two types of performance events are not
measured within a 15-minute or 24-hour period. Instead, they are continuously detected during measurement. If the
conditions are met, they are reported.

1.2 RMON Performance
Currently, the RMON consists of the following parts:

Statistics group, It collects the current real-time performance data.

History group, records past performance data.

The history control group is used to configure the parameters of the history group, including whether to
enable the history group and the period of the history group. (There are four 30s and 30 minutes in total.
Period 1 and period 2 can be set, similar to the 15-minute or 24-hour period of G.784.) Duration for storing
historical group

Alarm group, which is used to configure performance thresholds and enable the generation of threshold-
crossing reports. For the PTN equipment, the PTN equipment combines the history control group and
alarm group into the RMON setting.

Performance Instance
 Template: a collection of performance collection indicators. The indicators are displayed in indicator
pairs.
 Instance: Resource + Template = Instance. An instance collects some indicators of a performance
resource. It can be regarded as one or more performance tasks.
 Task: indicates the minimum unit for collecting performance data. The collection of one task is the
collection of one resource and one indicator pair. Collection tasks are managed through instance
management.

2 Performance Management System
Performance collection Process
1. NCE periodically obtains performance data from
NEs
2. NCE saves the collected performance data to
the database
3. The performance module collects performance
data
4&5. Indicate that the performance module
generates performance data and reports it to the
northbound module
6. The northbond module report the processed
performance data based on the period of the
northbond module
7. The upper-layer OSS obtains performance data
from NCE through FTP/SFTP
