Dear Reader,

My name is Oscar Taylor, I am excited to share and present my multi-genre research project with
you, I chose to examine the issues around Nutrition in Sports for Student-Athletes. I will be
presenting the pros and cons of food and which nutritional types are best for the academic/athletic life
balance. Nutrition in student-athletes is such a big issue today. As students often can’t fuel properly
with the correct nutrition before, after or during exercise as they live on campus and don’t have access
to proper food and cooking equipment, as they will only be provided with a possible microwave to
make quick meals, or just end up getting takeouts most of the time which is extremely unhealthy and
not the correct types of nutrition at all. The only way for them to get the correct nutrition, is if the
college/university cafeteria provides the correct nutrition for student-athletes to excel both on and off
the field around campus. Through this project, I hope you learn about the ways that nutrition can
benefit student-athletes, what type of foods are best to get set and ready for competition and learn
about how student-athletes with Type 1 diabetes work around there issues to compete in sport and
work hard to combat it and how they use nutrition in ways to help. There will be presented a hourly
timeline of a typical day navigating through college and athletics and when to provide your body with
the correct nutrition. Included in my project you will also find a weekly meal plan which is available
to access and download to keep for yourself to show the best ways to supply your body with energy
and fuel to benefit you. I hope this project will inspire you to make the changes to your diet and
lifestyle to put your nutrition first. Focus on a healthy lifestyle to combat your student-athlete
lifestyle. By doing this you will feel better every day, you will have more energy, feel like you can get
more done each day and be the best self you can.
