3. Existing Car Rental System
Car Rental System service will help users to book a car for some fee specified. Till now there
was no clear web based UI to help the users to rent the vehicle. They had to manually rent the
vehicle through their offices. It was a difficult task to manage rental vehicles. Keeping track
of all the rental cars was a problem.
A. Introduction

This Car Rental System project is designed to aid the car rental company to enable renting of
cars through an online system. It helps the users to search for available cars view profile and
book the cars for the time period. It has a user-friendly interface which helps the user to check
for cars and rent them for the period specified. They could also make payment online. The
rental cars shall be categorized into economy, premium etc. Based on the type of car required
by the customer, the user shall be able to make bookings. The use of internet technology has
made it easy for the customers to rent a car any time. This Car Rental System makes the
bookings easy. It saves time and labor. The tool shall ask the user for information such as the
date and time of journey, type of car etc. Also, it will need an identification number. Using
these details, the tool shall help the customer to book a car for the journey.

B. Drawbacks in existing system

1. More paperwork.
2. Time consuming.
3. No software present at all.
4. Lack of accessibility.
5. Manual system consume human time and energy.
6. A more time is required for customer detail validation and updation.
7. It takes more space for storage of various files like book and order car etc.
8. Manpower is required to maintain each register.

4.Proposed System and benefits :

This Car Rental System project will enable the user to rent a vehicle. The user shall login to
the system and check for availability of cars. The user specifies a type of car and the journey
date and time. The Car Rental System shall check for the availability of the car and rent the
car to the customer. The user can make payment online. The tool is designed using VB.net.
All the data regarding the rental cars are stored in MySQL database. The user has to enter his
name, address, phone details and check for the cars available for rent. The UI is very simple
and the connectivity to back end is robust. The main advantage is that the user shall be able to
choose a car depending on his budget.
• Security of data.
• Ensure data accuracy’s.
• Proper control of the higher officials.
• Minimize manual data entry.
• Minimum time needed for the various processing.
• Greater efficiency.
• Better service
• User friendliness and interactive.
• Minimum time required

Overcome these drawbacks following features, benefits provide proposed system: 1.

Easy to manage data in database.

2. Customer can easily book their car in this system.

3. In this system order and booking process is time saving.

4. Analysis and Design:

A. Feasibility Study :-

At this stage, the analyst estimates the urgency of the project and
estimates the development cost.
In feasibility analysis, we have to study the following:
1)Technical Feasibility:
Technical feasibility is concerned with the availability of hardware and software required for
the development of the system, to see compatibility and maturity of the technology proposed
to be used and to see the availability of the required technical manpower to develop the
system. After the study we came to conclusion that we proceed further with the tools and
development environment chosen by us. This was important in our case as we were working
on two various phases of the department that will need to be integrated in future to make an
extended system.
2)Operational Feasibility:
Operational feasibility is all about problems that may arise during operations. There are two
aspects related with this issue :-

• What is the probability that the solution developed may not be put to use or may not
work?
• What is the inclination of the management and end users towards the solution?
Though, there is very least possibility of management being averse to the solution,
there is a significant probability that the end users may not be interested in using the
solution due to lack of training, insight etc.
3)Economic Feasibility:
It is the measure of cost effectiveness of the project. The economic feasibility is nothing but
judging whether the possible benefit of solving the problems is worthwhile of not. At the
feasibility study level, it is impossible to estimate the cost because member’s requirements
and alternative solutions have not been identified at this stage. However, when the specific
requirements and solutions have been identified, the analyst weighs the cost and benefits of
all solutions, this is called “cost benefit analysis.
