DRAMATIC ARCHITECTURES
places of drama - drama for places

Architecture and theatre have had a close connection throughout time, but this
connection, and the ways these two art forms intertwine through multiple
dimensions, is still an undeveloped field of study, highly promising for both arts
as a way of apprehending and transforming space.
With this Conference, we invite Portuguese and international scholars and artists
to contribute to the development of knowledge in this field, mainly furthering the
understanding of of the use of architectonic spaces by theatre and performance,
the use of buildings as performing spaces and the adaptation of previous theatre
venues to contemporary practices of performing arts.
Papers about how architecture can be dramatized, and how one can build
dramaturgies about specific sites will be welcome. But we are also interested in
creating a theoretical framework based on common ground between architecture
and performing arts, like the problems of space and the use of light as a
projectual device, besides case studies and interpretations of architectural,
dramatic, performative experiences.
