Joy: Do you ever look at someone and wonder “what is going on inside their head?

DS: {spotlight towards baby Riley}

{Mom and Dad enters}

Mom: Hello… Riley

Dad: oh look at you aren’t you a little bundle of joy?

{Joy presses a button on HC}

{Riley chuckles softly}

{Sadness sneaks in, then presses some button on HC}

{Riley then starts to cry}

{Joy looks slowly towards Sadness}

Joy: Oh, hello. I.. i’m joy, So… can i just… i mean could you… I just want to x that
{Joy pushes Sadness out of the panel}

Scene 2: introducing the emotions and head working:

{everyone gets out of stage except for Joy} {Riley becomes a toddler}
{whole everyone leaves the stage} Joy: Headquarter have got more crowded since then
OS:{all emotions goes towards HC}

DS: {Parents: Get ready to eat dinner}

Mom: Riley its dinner time

{Rileys goes towards the table in the way}

{Joy break the 4th wall and start explaining to the judges}

Fear: No Look out, NO {presses something in the HC}

{Riley is very cautious while crossing the wire} meanwhile Fear: Easy, Easy THE
WIRE!!.. oh we’re good, ne.

Joy: that’s Fear, he is very good at keeping Riley safe

{Riley reaches the table and Dad starts feeding her with broccoli}

Disgust: okay caution, there is a dangerous smell people, oh what is that?

Joy: This is disgust she basically keeps Riley from being poisoned, physically and socially

Disgust: that is not brightly colored or shaped like a dinosaur. hold on guys. It’s broccoli!
{presses something in the HC}

{Riley: Throws the broccoli}

Dad: Riley if you not eat your dinner, you’re not getting any dessert

Anger: Wait did he just said we couldn’t have dessert?

Joy: that’s Anger he cares very deeply about things being fair

Dad: Riley Riley, Here comes an airplane mmmmm

{Anger and Riley stop yelling}

Anger: ohh airplane, we got an airplane everybody.

All emotions: Ohhh

{Riley nally eats her broccoli, Fear, anger and Disgust leaves}

Joy: and.. you’ve meet sadness, she… well, she… i’m not actually sure what she does.

anyways, these are riley’s memories, and they’re mostly happy, but the really important
ones are over here they are called core memories. each one came from a super important
time in riley’s life these are what makes Riley… Riley!… after all Riley is 11 now… What
could happen?

Scene 3: New home?

DS: Mom, Dad & Riley
RTA: emotions
(Intro montage)

Dad: get your things ready, we’re moving

Emotions & Riley: WHAT?!?!

{all leave}

Dad: nally, we’re on our new home

Mom: Riley, why don’t you go and see your new home?

Riley: Of course (with a disappointed look)

{emotions head to HC}Meanwhile Riley head to his room(disgusted of the new house)

Anger: do we have to live here?

Sad:Do we have to?
Disgust: It smells like something died in here

Joy: Guys, you are overreacting, Nobody is dying

Mom: Riley, your dad had to go because of his work

Joy: I’ve got an idea, {Riley says the same at the same time} why don’t we order some
pizza from the pizzeria we saw earlier

Mom: Pizza sounds delicious

Mom: {Calls from his phone to the pizzeria} Hello i’d like to order a pepperoni pizza…
what do you mean you only have broccoli pizza, that’s awful… Well, Bye. well, lets better
go and eat something in the street

{Mom and Riley leave}

Sad: i remember our Home pizza used to be good there.. and our friends are there, and…
we played hockey there and… maybe i should take the control

Joy: Wait why don’t you better read some… Headquarters manuals
{Some Time later}
{Riley enters to his room and gets ready to sleep in the oor}
{Riley is layer on the oor and hears a truck pass by}

Fear: What is that, a bear?!?!

Disgust: Of course there are no bears in San Francisco
Anger: i saw a very hairy guy that looked like a bear
Fear: i’m telling you guys there is at least 37 things for Riley to be scared of
Disgust: The smell alone is enough to make her gag
Anger: I can’t believe mom and dad moved us here!
Joy: Guys, Look i get it, But we’ve been through worse… lets better make a list of all the
things Riley should be happy about
Anger:Fine, let’s see, Our room stinks
Disgusting: Pizza is weird here
Sadness: our friends are back home
Fear: and all our stuff is on the missing Van
Joy: Ohh come on, it could be worse
Disgust: Yeah Joy, We could be lying on the dirty oor.
{They all look at Riley(She is on the oor)}

Joy: Ok i admit: we had a rough start, but lets think of the things Riley should be happy
about
Anger: No Joy; there is nothing for Riley to be happy about, let us handle this.
{Rileys mom enters his room and sits right next to her}

Mom: Hi honey.
Anger: The mom bad news train is pilling in, toot! toot!
Mom; still no moving Van, It wont be here till Tuesday, can you believe it?
Anger: Toot toot toot (train sounds)(sarcastically)

Mom: On the phone, his new job is keeping him pretty busy, he is a little stressed

Mom: I guess all i really wants to say is Thank you.
All emotions: Huh???
Mom, you know, well through all this confusion you’ve stayed our happy girl.
{All emotions turn to look at Joy}
Mom: But if you can keep smiling, it would be a big help.
Joy: Well.. {Touches something in the HC}
Riley: Yeah, Sure (in a good mood)
Mom: What did we do to deserve you?
{She gives Riley a goodnight kiss and leaves}{Before closing the door}
Mom: Sweet Dreams
Angry: Well, you can’t argue with mom, happy it is.
Fear: Team happy sounds great
Disgust: Totally behind you joy
Joy: Seems like we’re sleeping

Scene 4: The School

{school bell rings}
Teacher: we have a new student, could you introduce yourself Riley?
Joy: We got this

Riley: My name is Riley Andersen, i’m from Minnesota and now i live here.
Teacher: How about minnesota, can you tall us about there

Riley: Yeah, it gets pretty cold, the lake freezes over and that’s when we play hockey.,
pretty much everyone in my family skates, it’s like a family tradition. we go out the lake
every weekend… {sadness takes the HC}(Riley starts crying) Or we did, till i moved
away.
{some people whisper}
Disgust: cool kids whispering! did you see that they’re judging us!
{cool kids whisper}
Joy: Sadness knock it out, you cannot take control in this situation
Teacher:Well… I know it can be though moving to anew place but we are happy to have
you here, alright everyone, let’s go to the laboratory {all class leaves stage}

{Joy and sadness start ghting for the HC}

{and both fell of the headquarters}
{The rest of the emotions are impressed}
Anger: can i say a curse word now?

Joy: where are we? is that goofball island???
Sadness: Riley’s islands of personality!! they’re all down Oh this is bad.
Joy: we.. we can x this, we just need to get back to headquarters, plug the core
memories in and Riley will be back to normal.
Sadness:Ohh, Riley have no core memories, no personality island and noooo (gasps) and
no.. you, you are not in the headquarters, without you Riley can’t be happy, we gotta get
you back up there.
Joy: I’m coming for you Riley
{all leave}
Scene 5: Family Dinner
OS: Anger, Fear, Disgust
DS: Mom, Dad, Riley
RTA: Joy, Sadness

{they sit in the dinning table}

Mom: {makes some random talk}

Disgust: Riley is acting so weird. Why she acting so weird??
Anger: what do you expect?? all the islands are down
Disgust: joy would know what to do
Fear: that’s it, until she gets back we just do what joy would do!
Disgust: Great idea, anger, fear disgust… how are we supposed to be happy??
Mom: hey Riley, i’ve got good news, i found a junior hockey league here in San Francisco.
and try outs are tomorrow!
Disgust: uh oh, what do we do?
fear: Guys (stuttering) here, you.. you pretend to be joy.
Mom: wont it be great to be back out on ice?
{Disgust touches something in HC}
Riley(disgusted): oh, yeah that sounds fantastic
Fear: what was that, that wasn’t anything like joy!
Disgust: Duhh, because i’m not joy?

{moms mind}
Sadness: did you guys pick up on that?

Mom: so, how was the rst day of school?

{Rileys Mind}
Disgust: That’s it, i’m done, you pretend to be joy {pushes Fear towards the center of HC}
Fear: What? Okay. Um, hmm. {Presses something in HC}

Riley: It was ne, I guess. I don't know. (with fear??)

{Mom’s mind}
Anger: Something is de nitely is going on
Disgust: she’s never acted like this before, what should we do?
Sadness: We need to nd out whats happening but we need support, signal the husband

Anger: Uh-oh. She's looking at us. Uh, what did she say?

OS:{the emotions divide into two parts, the dads ind and Rileys mind
Riley’s side: Disgust, Fear Dad’s side: Anger, Joy and Sadness(dads side have a
mustache)}

Disgust: Move, i’ll be Joy {touches HC}

Riley: School was great, all right?!
Mom: Riley is everything okay?
{Riley rolls her eyes}

Joy: Sir he just rolled her eyes at us

Anger: Alright, make a show of force
Dad: Riley, i do not like this new attitude.

Disgust: Ohh ill show you attitude{touches HC}

Riley: what is your problem, just leave me alone

Sadness: sir, reporting high levels of sass!
Anger: we may have to put the foot down
Dad: Listen young lady, i don’t know where this disrespectful attitude came from…
Anger: here it comes, prepare the foot!
Joy: Ready to launch your command sir!
Riley: Just shut up!! {hit table}
Dad: That's it! Go to your room! Now!
{Riley leaves Angry, Disgust and fear leaves too}

Anger: good job gentlemen, that could have been a disaster

Scene: 6
OS: no one
DS: Joy, Sadness
RTA: Bing Bong

{joy enters while pulling sadness from the feet and carrying the core memories}

Joy(tired): {groans} This is not working. are we gettin close?

Sadness: yeah, just another right, and.. a left then another… left and..
Joy: Uhh, are you sure you know where we’re going?
{Bing Bong enters while humming his song (CALMLY)}

Joy: hello
{bing bong goes and hides behind something}
Bing Bong: Uh, I was looking for, um... Distraction!
Joy: what?
{bing bong tries to run but he ends up hitting his head}Bing Bong (soft voice): i hurt all
over
Joy: Wait, i Know you
Bing Bong: No you don’t, i get that a lot, i look like a lot of people
Joy: nonono, i do {gasps} Bing Bong! Riley's imaginary friend!
Bing Bong: you really do know me?
Joy: well of course! we’re trying to get back to headquarters
Bing Bong: without you Riley won’t ever be happy, come here follow me!
Joy: it is so great to see your again, i gotta tell you i’m such a big fan of yours, That’s
right, your theme song, who is the friend you like to play?

His rickey makes you yell hooray!
Both(Bing bong and Joy): Bing Bong, Bing Bong 0
{Both laugh}
Joy: By the way what are you doing out here?
Bing Bong: Well, there's not much call for imaginary friends lately… So, uh, i… you
know, um...(sighs)(sad)

Joy: hey, don’t be sad, you know, when i get back to head quarters ill makes sure Riley’s
remembers you
BgBg: You will?
Joy: of course
 BgBg: yippeee, this is the greatest day of my life!! (celebrates)

{Joy drops the core memories}

BgBg: use this {hands him his back pack}
Joy: thanks, this will make it a lot easier…
{all walk out the stage}

Scene: 7 The idea

Disgust: on a scale of 1 to 10 i give this day a 0
Anger: then why don’t we do something?
Disgust: Like what genius?
Fear: i thought we’re supposed to keep Riley happy
Anger: Wait a minute {goes and grab some light bulb in the side of the scenery}
Disgust & Fear: what is it??
Anger: Oh, nothing, just the best idea ever
Disgust: what?
Anger: all the good core memories were made in Minnesota, then we go back to
Minnesota and make more. Tadaa!
Fear You’re saying we run
Disgust: I mean Riley was happier in Minnesota
Fear: Wait hold on, shouldn’t we sleep on this or something?
Anger: All right lets sleep on it, because hey, i’m sure jolly fun- lled times are just around
the corner(sarcastically) by the way, it’s your turn to supervise Riley’s dreams
{All leaves}

Scene 8: Payasote
OS: Joy, Sadness, BingBong
DS: Mind Workers
RTA: 4 Mind Workers, Jangles

BgBg: hey look here is the train of thought, it could lead you to the headquarters
Joy: right let’s hop in
Sadness: nally we have our way back to the headquarters
{the train stops and the background darkens}
{2 Head workers exit the train cabin}
joy{to the train workers}: hey, why aren’t we moving?
MindWorker 3: Riley’s asleep, we’re all on break
BgBg: we’re stuck here until morning, the train of thought doesn’t run when she’s asleep
sad:what about we wake her up?
Joy: that’s ridiculous, how could we possibly can?

Sad: look, there’s the subconscious, they take all the trouble makers there {points
somewhere in the whiteboard} and there are the “Dream studios” where all riley’s
dreams are created

Joy: And your idea is...

Sad: maybe we can take something from the Subconscious and use it to wake Riley up
Joy: are you sure? she’s been through a lot already
Sad: yeah maybe we nd jangles
BgBg: Jangles? who is jangles?
Joy: Jangles, she is the embodiment of a deep fear from when we were younger
BgBg: that sounds es terrifying, ill go to the Dream studios to ask about ….

{joy and Sadness heads to the “subconscious” while BgBg goes to the dream
studios(leaves)}
{2 Mind workers goes to the door (they are security)}
{Joy an Sad sneaks behind the guards and (then they pretends they’re escaping from
the “prison”) at the same time:}[MW=Mind Worker in this case they are ]

MW1:My hat feels loose, are you sure this is my hat or your hat?
MW2: Yeah, it’s my hat
MW1: you sure? Look n the label
MW2 yeah, it says “my hat”
MW1: that s what I wrote in my hat, you’ve got my hat on
MW2: ok but its my handwriting

{Joy and sad reaches the door and pretend they were escaping, they make a sound with
the door}

MW1: Hey you!

Sad: Oh! you caught us!
{the guard take them to the left side and and then the go on stage again a the same time}
MW2: get back in there!
{when they re-enter the stage a howl sounds, both start going trough Riley darkest fears
the projection on the chalk board will guide the order}(Joy and sadness are really
scared)

Sad: look, there’s broccoli

Joy: (acts like he is about to throw up)
Both: Ohh, grandma’s vacuum cleaner!
Sad: maybe we can use that
Joy: I don’t think she’s is still afraid of it anymore
Sad: then, what is something Riley is still afraid of?
Jangles(menacingly): Who’s the birth day party???
Joy & Sadness: Jangles!!😁 … Jangles 😰
Joy(STAMMERING and calling for gangles attention): Did you hear about the pa-pa-
party they were having?

Sad(stammering): Oh… yes joy

{Jangles goes on stage from the left side and starts chasing Joy}

{they go to the right side, they hide behind the stage(Jangles to) and then they go to the
left side. one of the guards guards go out from the left side, and then about 2 seconds
after Joy and Sadness get out running {MW: Hey. }and then Jangles pushes him es she
chase Joy and sadness, (the guard fall into the oor)

DS: Jangles, Joy and Sadness

Look, the party is right there in the dream studios

{BgBg get’s out the door and goes towards joy}
{Jangles Goes towards dream studios and enter the door}
{the people in the dream studios yells

{montage of Riley waking up in the projector}

I was about to say they wouldn’t let us but… come on, let’s go
{Joy, Sadness and BgBg ride the Train}

Joy: Ha-ha! We made it! Guess who’s on their way to the Headquarters!

Scene 9: action
OS: Fear, Anger, Disgust
DS: Riley in a sleeping bag with his laptop by her side
RTA: Mom, Dad (Joy & Sadness on the side of the stage)
{Riley looks really tired, as if she just woke up}

{Fear is already on the HC the rest is just waking up}

Disgust: *yawn* what is going on?
Anger: Fear woke us again
(Fear: stuttering trinity to describe the dream)
Anger: You fool, it was a dream, this is ridiculous, we can’t even get a good night sleep
anymore {Takes the idea from one side} Time to take action {the goes towards head
control} Who’s with me? {looks at fear}
Fear: (stuttering) nonononon
{anger looks at disgust}
Disgust: yeah , let’s do it.
{anger puts the idea in the HC}
{Riley Takes his laptop and start booking bus tickets}
Anger: She took it, there is no turning back
Fear: How are we gaining to get to Minnesota from here?

Anger: we are taking the bus, nitwit!
Anger: {points at the computer} there’s a buss leaving tomorrow, perfect!
{Riley starts packing his thing in a backpack}

{mom and dad enter}

Mom: have a great day sweetheart
Dad: see you after school
Mom: we love you
{Riley leaves}
Dad: i have to go to work leaves too
Mom: imma get some groceries

Fear: Wait wait hang on guys, are we really doing this? I mean this is serious
Anger: look, we have no core memories, we want Riley to be happy?, so lets get back on
Minnesota and make more (slightly nervous)

the emotions slowly start to panic

{the scenery is now a bus station}{Riley enters stage}{some extras are making a line to
get on the bus Riley is the last one in line (about 5 or 6 more if necessary)}
{Rileys phone rings}
Disgust: oh no, it’s mom again, what do we do?
Anger:Ummm… {touches something in HC}
{Riley declines the call}{Family island starts to break}
Anger: This is madness, we shouldn't run away!
Disgust: Let’s get this idea out of her head!
{Disgust tries to take the light bulb (idea) out of the HC but its stuck}

Disgust: oh great
Fear: what do you mean it’s stuck, how do we stop it?

{the buss with all the people inside gets out}
Riley(Sad):What am I doing?!?

{Mom and Dad enters}
Mom: we’re home Riley? Riley!… i’ll call her teacher {calls with his cellphone}
Hi, this is Riley’s mother. I’m sorry to bother you, but I’ve been trying to reach her all
day, and she hasn’t responded. I’m getting a bit worried. Has she been in school today?

Teacher through the phone: Oh, let me check the attendance records… I’m sorry, it
seems Riley wasn’t in class today.

Mom: Okay thank you {hangs up} her teacher hasn’t even seen Riley in all day
Dad: What?
Mom: What was she wearing last? Do you ever remember what…
Dad: I can’t believe this..
{Riley enters (crying)}

Mom: Riley! We were worried sick / Dad: There you are, Thank goodness
{Riley cries}
Riley: I know you don't want me to but... I miss Home… I miss Minnesota You need me to
be happy, but... I want my old friends, and my hockey team. I want to go Home, Please
don’t be mad
Mom: oh sweetie
Dad: We’re not mad, you know what? I miss Minnesota too.
{Rileys Sobs?}
Dad: Come here
{Riley and his parents are hugging while Riley is sobbing}
{Sad has been controlling all this scene, but suddenly invites joy to take the control at
the same time}{Rileys feels comfort with his family}
