Laos (Lao People’s Democratic Republic) is a socialist state + only
landlocked country in SEA. Bordered Northwest by Myanmar &
China, East by Vietnam, Cambodia by Southeast, Thailand by west/southwest. The Kip (₭) is the national currency. The word Laos was coined by the French, who united the three Lao kingdoms in French Indochina in 1893. (named bcs the most common ethnic group there are the Lao people). In its language it is pronounced as Muang Lao (ປະເທດລາວ), it means Lao country. The Mekong River forms a large part of the western boundary with Thailand, w the Annamite Range form most of the eastern border with Vietnam and the Luang Prabang Range the northwestern border with the Thai highlands. Laos’ geography can be considered as : North, Central, & South. The official + majority language is the Lao, but people also occasionally use French and English. 60% of Laotians are Buddhist
