SHORT STORY ONE: COMPASSION

In a village near Nagarahole forest there was a family of 8. Their main occupation was farming.
They had a piece of land in which they grew corn. From the yields, 3/4th of it would be sold to the
market and the remaining ¼ they would sell to the visitors who came to explore the forest.

One day, after a huge rainfall the father of the family went near the field to have a look at the
crops. There was a huge shock waiting for him. A young tiger. It was badly wounded and was
not able to move! It had fallen into a deep pit which was dug to avoid wild animals crossing the
border. At first, the farmer got scared of the tiger cub. But here realized that the cub was very
badly hurt. He tried calling the forest officers and vet doctors but because of the rains all the
network connections were very weak. He understood that the tiger needed immediate action. He
called two of his friends. They pulled the tiger from the pit started to treat the tiger’s wounds
with whatever medicine they knew. As they were brought up in that area, they knew many things
about animals and their nurturing. Slowly the tiger started to recover. After 10-15 days the tiger
was healed. The rains had also come down, the forest officer along with the doctor examined the
tiger and certified that it was cured. They left it back into the woods. But, by then, the people
who treated the tiger, their family and their kids had formed a bond with the tiger. The tiger also
did not harm anyone as it had gained confidence on those people. All the eyes were wet when
they saw the tiger being taken back to the woods.

Moral of the Story

Life is built on memories. It is up to us, to make the memories a sweet one. Being
compassionate towards others helps us to understand the importance of bonds and relationships
that we need to take along with us till the end. This story is also a great way to understand man
animal interaction in areas bordering forests

Short Story Two: Justify your role!

One day in the forest, all the birds had gathered to decide who could be their king! Just like the
lion who was the king of all the animals, birds also wanted someone to be the king of the birds.
As the lion lives in a separate den, the king of the birds also would have an entire tree. All the
fruits and leaves of that tree would belong only to the king.

They all started a discussion on the same line. The parrot, peacock, pigeon were contesting for
the throne. Finally, the peacock claimed itself as the king of birds as he was very handsome. All
the others agreed, but a crow objected it. The peacock was angry. The crow said that it had no
objection to accept the peacock as the king if he answered a question. The crow asked that being
a king, what measures would the peacok take to protect the birds from other predatory hawks,
eagles, kites and vultures? What measures would the peacock take to safeguard the eggs from the
snakes?

After listening to the questions, the peacock realized that it really did not have any answer. The
peacock had its mind set on only the privileges of being the king, it had not thought about the
duties and responsibilities. The peacock voluntarily stepped out from the group and admitted that
it does not have the qualities to become the king yet.

MORAL OF THE STORY


We often think that a grand role, such as class monitor or group leader, will give us powers and
privilege. But, we should never forget that it is not just about the rights but also about the
responsibilities
