Determining the Factors Influencing the Adoption of Lean Logistics in the Electric Vehicle
Manufacturing Industry
This article proposes a study to identify the primary factors influencing the adoption of
lean logistics in the electric vehicle (EV) industry to reduce costs and achieve excellence. Total
cost and production time are critical in optimizing logistic processes besides product quality
(González-Reséndiz et al., 2018). This research proposal’s motivation was the sp[onteneous
growth of the EV industry in recent years after climate change necessitated a rethink of the
world’s energy consumption behavior (Azadnia, Onofrei, & Ghadim, 2021). The research will
provide insights into the state of adoption of lean logistics in the EV industry and the factors
influencing this trend. Lean logistics will be critical in managing critical factors in this industry
affecting how manufacturing companies manage their costs, quality, and response time.
Therefore, the EV industry could benefit substantially from adopting lean logistics to ensure
high-quality products are produced through sustainable supply chains, given the need for
environmental sustainability in the modern world.
The problem tackled by this study will be the current logistic problems affecting raw
materials' supply chains in the EV industry, including the scarcity of these materials (Azadnia,
Onofrei, & Ghadim, 2021). High demands for electric vehicles in the modern world also worsen
the challenges faced by EV manufacturers when coupled with supply chain issues. Improving the
processes and strategies applied by the EV manufacturers could help reduce the strain between
supply and demand that pushes costs higher and reduce response times for EV orders. There are
few EV manufacturers at the writing of this article, but the number is growing as more
automotive manufacturers adopt the technology and developing countries establish new
manufacturing companies (Habiburrahman & Nurcahyo, 2022). Current logistics models and
supply systems will need significant enhancements to cope with the demands of the burgeoning
industry. Therefore, EV manufacturers need to brace for increased competition that requires
strategic management and efficient supply chains by streamlining them through lean logistics.
The proposed study’s primary objective will be to develop a framework for identifying
factors that play crucial roles when EV manufacturers adopt lean logistics to streamline their
supply chains and product delivery. This framework will guide new EV companies hoping to
gain a competitive advantage in a global industry to follow when adopting lean logistics by
illuminating the best practices and shortcomings in the logistics approach. Lean logistics reduce
waste, overproduction, and unnecessary waiting and movement when manufacturers make
strategic decisions that govern how the company operates as a system (Ahmad & Khan, 2021).
This study will identify where EVF companies could incorporate lean logistics concepts and the
potential issues that could arise in the process. The second objective of the proposed research
project will be to provide a breakdown of the state of affairs in lean adoption at the time of the
study among EV manufacturers globally. This analysis will be critical in illuminating
environmental factors such as geography, climate, and socioeconomic factors that account for the
disparity in lean logistics adoption in this industry. The study will also increase the knowledge
resources available to engineers regarding adopting lean logistics, their benefits, and
shortcomings to aid future researchers interested in the topic.
In conclusion, this article presents a research proposal to identify the essential factors that
affect lean logistics adoption in the EV manufacturing sector. The proposal also explains why the
approach will be critical in the growing EV manufacturing industry. The final section provides
the project objectives for the proposed study, including the development of an identification
framework for lean logistics benefits and shortcomings through the identified factors. It also

indicates the benefits of the study for future researchers hoping to improve the EV sector by
enhancing lean logistics and its adoption.
