In this Document you will learn:

 How to identify an AI generated image.

 How to make your own AI generated image.
 The implications on how it may affect the student/s involved psychologically and
mentally.

The image that will be observed will be this one:

HOW TO IDENTIFY AN AI GENERATED IMAGE
1.) Inconsistencies in the image
Many AI generated images have inconsistencies within them. The following may
appear in an AI image:

 Unnatural textures and Background Anomalies – Hair, fur, or other intricate

textures may appear blurry, inconsistent, or strangely detailed in different
areas. Also, blurring, illogical architectural elements, or repeated patterns
in the background can be signs of AI generation . In our provided example
(Figure 1), if you observe carefully on the pillars’ texture it will appear as
inconsistent as AI does not currently possess the technology to have the
same cognitive abilities as humans in order to draw the proper texture
consistently in each subject. It is also worth noting that the edges of each
subject in the image have a slight blur onto them since AI is indecisive it
blurs all the subjects that it has included to avoid mistakes.
 Anatomical oddities – In images with people or animals, pay attention to
hands, fingers, teeth, or eyes. They might have the wrong number of
fingers, uneven placement, or strange proportions. If we observe closely
on the human character in the image, we can spot a mistake on the
person’s hand as it is drawn with no palms or a gun for a hand. Details
below:

 Lighting issues – Unnatural or inconsistent lighting effects, especially

around object edges, might indicate AI manipulation. In Figure 1, we can
observe that the pinkish and bluish light are not properly lighting the
objects involved in the image, as can be seen from its central pillar. It is
also worth mentioning that the character in the shot has a random light
highlighting them but no observable light source can be seen.

2.) The content of the image

 Highly detailed or fantastical scenes – AI excels at creating
fantastical or hyper-realistic images that might not be possible
in real photography. Enough said, the example is clearly a very
fantastical scene but human imagination can create better
artwork with better perspective and camera work.
 Inconsistent repeating patterns – Accidental of inconsistent
repetition of patterns in backgrounds or on clothing can be a
giveaway. In the pillar of our sample photo, you can see that its
patterns are too “wild” and have a glitch-like pattern due to the
AI trying to make it symmetrical but failing miserably.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN AI GENERATED IMAGE

1.) Choose your AI tool. For this tutorial I’m using Google’s Gemini™ AI
chat bot since you can use it for free and can generate images for
you without any payment unlike GPT-4.
2.) Enter the prompt that you want. It must contain specific information
on what you want the AI tool to generate. Example:
Here are the results of my prompt:

3.) Add designs to your image using Canva to add element or even just
simple editing tools. Make sure to add a lot so that the viewer can not
easily comprehend that it is AI generated just like what the creator of
Figure 1 did. That’s all, Have fun!

THE EFFECT OF USING AI GENERATED ON STUDENTS

Seeing classmates’ amazing pictures made with computers might make other
students feel down about their own art. It can feel like their hard work doesn’t matter if a
computer can just make something super cool so easily. This can make them want to
give up on drawing or painting at all. It might even seem like their classmates are
cheating if they don’t know the pictures were made by a computer and they may even
sometimes feel threatened so they push themselves into creating the best they could
make but it may happen that their works’ glamour is subpar compared to the AI
generated photo. All together, seeing computer-made art in class could hurt students’
confidence in their own drawing and make them feel like their creativity Isn't special. An
example of this is Maria Jefel feeling threatened by the creator of Figure 1’s artwork but
if they find out they may feel disappointed or cheated towards those that use AI
generated photos or artwork.
