D04g.

5 Chemical tanker Certificates of Fitness


* A UK chemical tanker must carry:
in the case of a ship complying with the BCH Code, a Certificate of Fitness for the Carriage of Dangerous
Chemicals in Bulk; and
in the case of a ship complying with the IBC Code, an International Certificate of Fitness for the Carriage
of Dangerous Chemicals in Bulk.
* Both certificates are valid for a maximum of 5 years, subject to annual and intermediate surveys.
* Both certificates may have Noxious Liquid Substance survey endorsements as required by Annex II of MARPOL
73/78.
* For notes on the codes applicable to chemical tankers of different construction dates, see D03e.1.
D04g.5a Certificate of Fitness for the Carriage of Dangerous Chemicals in Bulk
* Ships surveyed in accordance with the provisions of section 1.6 of the BCH Code, and found to comply with the
Code, should be issued with a Certificate of Fitness for the Carriage of Dangerous Chemicals in Bulk.
* The Certificate shows: 1. Name of ship. Port of registry. Official No. Ship type (Code para. 2.2.4). 2. List of
products (continued on signed and dated sheets at annex 1A); conditions of carriage. 3. Dispensations, equivalents,
etc. permitted under 1.7.3 and 2.2.5 of the Code. 4. Instruction as follows: “Where it is required to load the ship
other than in accordance with the above instruction, then the necessary calculations to justify the proposed loading
conditions should be submitted to the Department, who may authorise in writing the adoption of the propose loading
conditions.” 5. Operational notes (several pages of detailed notes relating to products in product list). 6. Pollution
notes. 7. General notes. 8. Strength notes. 9. Stability notes. 10. Tank plan. 11. Appendixes. 12. Addenda. 13.
Endorsements for annual and intermediate surveys.
D04g.5b International Certificate of Fitness for the Carriage of Dangerous Chemicals in
Bulk
* Ships surveyed in accordance with the provisions of section 1.5 of the IBC Code, and found to comply with the
Code, should be issued with an International Certificate of Fitness for the Carriage of Dangerous Chemicals in
Bulk.
* The Certificate shows similar details to those on a Certificate of Fitness (see D04g.5a).
