The situation: You’re at the party of a friend of a friend of a

friend. There’s a hot tub. You’re hanging out in it. Someone new
arrives. You know them a little bit, maybe you got introduced
earlier in the night? They seem cool. Really cool. You have
something you want from them, or something you want to do
with them. But you don’t want to actually have to ask: whether
you never make first moves, or you always make first moves and
you’re tired of it - wouldn’t it be nice if they asked you?

Set-up: Set up a phone timer for ten minutes. Each player

should randomly grab a character card and read it. Each card
has a name, a description, and a goal. You must achieve your
goal without actually using any of the words on the card. When
you both are ready, one person gets in the hot tub. The other
starts the timer, and play begins. Remember the improv
principal of “yes, and”: if the other player introduces a new
element, rock and roll with it, unless it directly contradicts
important information or includes a topic which makes you
uncomfortable out of game. At the end of ten minutes, play is
over! Drop character, let each other know what your goals were,
swap high fives, and enjoy the rest of your day.
 SAM
ADJECTIVES:
kind, silly, honest

GOAL:
You want them to ask you on a date to the county fair. You have
a pet pig at home that you bet could win the Big Pig contest. His
name is Waddles. It would be the best night ever if they would
try to win a giant stuffed animal for you.

ALEX
ADJECTIVES:
creative, unique, bold

GOAL:
You want them to ask you to be in their band. You’re an
amazing harmonica player, and your specialty is covers of Lady
Gaga songs. You happen to have a bunch of matching glittery T-
shirts you all could wear.
 TYLER
ADJECTIVES:
silly, outgoing, excitable

GOAL:
You want them to ask you to be their partner in the Halloween
costume contest. The two of you would be PERFECT for Mario
and Princess Peach. And why stop there? You guys could even
enter the Pumpkin Carving contest together!

CHARLIE
ADJECTIVES:
independent, alternative, cool

GOAL:
You want them to ask you to be in their invite-only vampire
LARP group. You already have a super unique character
concept in mind - a werewolf who's mortal enemies with
vampires, except that they're in love with one. It's like Romeo
and Juliet, but with monsters. Maybe you guys could watch
some True Blood together as research.
 MILO
ADJECTIVES:
determined, caring, dorky

GOAL:
You want them to ask you on a date to the new Olive Garden
opening up in town. You bet you can break the world record for
eating the most breadsticks. Maybe afterwards, you can go to
Baskin Robbins and sample all 31 ice cream flavors.

THEO
ADJECTIVES:
Adventurous, determined, hard-working

GOAL:
You want them to ask you to apply for The Amazing Race
together. You could come up with such a good team name!
You'd most like to get to visit Venice and have them row you
around in a gondola.
 CAMERON
ADJECTIVES:
smart, off-beat, curious

GOAL:
You want them to ask you on their upcoming road trip to visit
haunted places all around the area. You guys could go to the
Mothman Cafe together! And hike in the woods while hunting
for Bigfoot! It would be so much fun!

DREW
ADJECTIVES:
earnest, loyal, gentle

GOAL:
You want them to ask you on a date to Six Flags. Not only do
you enjoy the ride, but you want to get a picture with the
mascot characters! Tweety Bird is one of your favorite
characters. Maybe all three of you could do a dance-off!
 RYAN
ADJECTIVES:
nerdy, passionate, ambitious

GOAL:
You want them to ask you to come be a guest on their popular
internet talk show. You have a niche interest that you just know
their fans would love! You guys could probably come up with a
great hashtag together to promote it.

BLAKE
ADJECTIVES:
spontaneous, playful, friendly

GOAL:
You've always wanted to try an escape room but are too
nervous to go on your own. The two of you, however, would be
a perfect team! Your really want to do the creepy murder
mansion theme - but in the kidnapped one they handcuff you,
so maybe you can do both? Handcuffs and then weirdo murder
manor?
