Preface
Department of Water Resource and Irrigation (DWRI) is one of the major Deparlments underthe
Government of Nepal tbr r,vater resoLrrce related infrastructure developrnent. DWRI has been
planning, designing, constructing and managing conrparatively rnedium-large Irrigation. [i.iver
nlanagemelrt and catchmcnt managerxent pro.jects through sel'eral local as u,ell as intcrnational

pro.ject.It is a lact that there is no specillc rrethod bcing r-rsed tor construtction duration
particularly in medium and large project in various geographical locations and rvorking
conditions. The method being applied till date to determine contract duration lor cottstructiott
projects in rvater resoufce sector is most[1'ad-hoc, irrespective of geographic complexitl'. nature
olrvork and the considerations of norl<ing c1a1,s. Sirnilarll'. thc contract duratiorr is ittcotrsistent
in diI'lbrent proiects fbr sintilar cornplcxitl- and cost. A departrnental guidelinc seett'ts nccessarY

Furthcrmore. the comntittee prcparecl the guiclclincs ancl chccklist o1'clocuments nccessar)' Ior
Extension of Time (EoT), Contract Variation, and approval of Detail Project Report (DPR) etc.
