Chapter No.

2
• Worship: encompasses everything that aligns with what
Allah loves and finds pleasing, including spoken words,
actions, as well as those that are visible and hidden.
• The concept of worship in Islam is more general and
comprehensive than what many people think, from mere
prayer, zakat, fasting and pilgrimage only.
• The foundation of Worship rests upon two pillars: the
profound love for and complete submission to Allah
Almighty.

• Worship with regard to its benefit is of two types:

1. Personal benefit, such as prayer, reading the Qur’an,
dhikr, and so on.
2. Multiple benefits, such as zakat, because the rich person
takes out part of his money and gives it to the poor.
Conditions of Worship in Islam
1. The act of worship should be devoted to Allah alone,
A Muslim should intend in all his words and deeds,
both inward and outward, to seek the reward from
Allah.
2. The action should be in accordance with the only
way which Allah has prescribed for worship, which
is by following the Prophet ☻.
Ibn al-Qayyim said: “Allah has made devotion of
worship to Him alone and following the Sunnah is a
means of deeds being accepted; if these conditions
are not met, then deeds are unacceptable”.

In the light of the Aayah
• Successful is the one who pleases his Lord while living in
this world and in return is declared worthy of Allah's mercy
and forgiveness in the Hereafter.
• Among the attributes of those who are successful, faith was
mentioned first, because faith is the main reason for
success, then 6 attributes of the people of faith were
mentioned.
Ways of developing Khushoo’ in Salaah
1. Preparing oneself for prayer properly: For example…
2. Knowing that Allah responds to prayers.
3. Removing anything that may distract the worshipper.
4. Diversifying the supplications that are said in prayer.
5. Remembering death whilst praying.

 Laghw any thing or action which has no benefit. It
includes shirk and every sin, and every useless and
purposeless word and deed, and when people of faith
abstain from Laghw, their primary focus shifts towards
avoiding forbidden deeds.
 The word »‫ «فاعلون‬means that the believer constantly
practices purification (of their Nafs OR their Wealth).
 Question: This verse is Meccan and Zakat was obligatory in the 2nd
year after Hijrah, then how is it explained in the Meccan verse?.
 Answer: Zakat was obligatory in Makkah, but, its amount,
conditions etc, were determined in Madinah, It can also mean that
the meaning of Zakat here is to purify the self from the traces of
shirk and sin.
