TOPIC:POETIC DEVICES
1.Simile-A simile is a figure of speech in which two essentially is similar objects or
concepts are expressly compared with one another through the use of
“like” or “as.” For example: cool as a cucumber.

2.Metaphor: A metaphor is a figure of speech that makes a comparison between


two non-similar things. As a literary device, metaphor creates implicit
comparisons without the express use of “like” or “as.” For example:
Laughter is a best medicine.

3.Personification:Personification is a figure of speech where animals, plants or


even inanimate objects, are given human qualities – resulting in a poem full
of imagery and description. For example: I wanted to get money, but the
ATM died.

4.Alliteration: Alliteration is a literary device that reflects repetition in two or more


nearby words of initial consonant sounds. Alliteration does not refer to the
repetition of consonant letters that begin words, but rather the repetition of
the consonant sound at the beginning of words. For example,
the phrase “kids’ coats” is alliterative.

5. Repetition: Repetition is a literary device that involves using the same word or
phrase over and over again in a piece of writing or speech.

6. Onomatopoeia: Onomatopoeia is the 'formation of a word which describes its


sound'. Examples of onomatopoeic words include sizzle, clap, moo, roar,
etc.

7.Rhyming Scheme: Rhyming scheme is the pattern of rhyme that comes at the end
of each verse or line in poetry. In other words, it is the structure of end words
of a verse or line that a poet needs to create when writing a poem.
