RELIGIOUS ICONOCLASTIC CONTROVERSY

The iconoclastic controversy refers to the dispute over various religious images frequently for

spiritual practices, and the Iconoclast rejected using images, terming it as Idolatry.

QUESTION 1

Objections on the Divine Images by John of Damascus are; God's presence doesn't dwell in

honored places where people worship. The second commandment forbids worshiping all forms

of idols in the temple instead of John's Explanation. The second commandments did not only

forbid Idolatry among the Israelites on the Old Testament, but the Law is, too applicable in the

New Testament. (Daley et al., 2018). The incense offering before the Veils- blood sacrifice were

sprinkled on the turbanacles was not a form of worshiping God. The fourth commandment has

not transformed the second commandments in the Christian era about the seventh day of

worship,

QUESTION 2

John does not think that the Old Testament forbids can prevent the Christian from making the

images of Jesus and the Saint because these were artistic works and were also human-made,

causing them to be worshiped and are the human acts of obedience. He added that Old Testament

forbids graven image-making, especially the worship of them as it was Idolatry by God.

QUESTION 3

John describes the kind’s worships were; the whole worship of God and the worship of Saints

and Servants. This supported his work when he said that it’s God by nature is worthy to be

worshiped. Saints and Servants also need to be worshiped to upraise their spiritual fight. There

was Law of the forerunner of images forbade banning the photos, hence supporting John's spirit.

QUESTION 4

The incarnation supported John; he believed in God by saying that God created the world and all

creatures because of His immense goodness. He believes in and respected the spirits of saints. He

are regular reminders of our Lord and the fullness of the gospel mission for the restoration.

QUESTION 5

John's argument favored the Icons because he created awareness on the importance at the places

of worship, he urged the worshiping of saints and servant who expressed their faith, he also

urged the whole worship of God, he suggested that God's Spirit dwells at worship places with the

imagery (Daley et al.,2018)
