who have already achieved them or provide materials that give people all the tools they need to
succeed. Digital content such as eBooks, livestreamed podcasts, and videos make for great list-building
value adds. We all know that regulations are changing day by day, which means that event planners
need to prepare for the unexpected. Brief clients and stakeholders on changes you anticipate based on
what your city or state has done in the previous six months. Keep all of your signed contracts and vendor
documents in one easy-to-reference place. Create an outline for your team that summarizes what needs
to happen if your event must be postponed, moved online, or canceled last minute.

The terms goals and objectives are often used interchangeably. However, they each have
distinct meanings. Goals are usually specific and measurable. Objectives are the strategies and steps
that you use to reach your goals. When working with performance goals, focus on what you can control.
For example, you can’t really control how many of your attendees choose to return for next year’s
conference. But you can assess the number of sales made before, during, and after the conference. And
how many qualified leads you obtained. And how many of those leads your team followed up with in the
months after. The list can go on and on. Or a specific and measurable result from an event.
