Methods and Sources on the Church’s Social Teachings

Sacred Scriptures
Collection of ancient writings that Christians believe are inspired by God to
reveal Him to us.
Christians believe that the Holy Spirit inspired many different individual human
author of sacred scriptures.
Main basis of moral principles in CST.

Reason
A capacity of conscious making sense of things, applying logic, and adapting or
justifying practices, institutions, and beliefs based on the new existing
information.
It is associated with Natural Law

Human Tradition
In the line with the teachings of the Church, human tradition may refer to beliefs
or customs maintained by religious denominations and Church bodies that shares
history, customs, culture, and to some extent, body of teachings.
It refers on what have been written down by the Church such as pastoral letters,
papal encyclicals, etc.

Experiences
Cst uses human experiences as one of its source because our God is always present
in our everyday lives and the Church allows experiences to communicate her mission
based on the places, peoples, events, and circumstances.

The SEE-JUDGE-ACT
Is one of the methods employed by the Church in identifying problems, gathering
information, observing and laying out possible processes and solutions as well as
choosing among on alternatives after studying and discernment.
