ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
I am eternelry grateful to the Holy Spirit
for inspiring me to write this book.

I initially wanted to write content for my

LinkedIn page before the Holy Spirit
inspired me to write it as a blog and
then convert it to a book. And when the
Holy Spirit is the inspiration behind
something, trust that it will impact your
life. So prepare your heart to be blessed.
I also want to thank Adeniji Busayomi,
whom God used to organize the whole
upperoom experience. Thanks for
yielding.

And to every single person that showed

up on that day, God bless you.

PREFACE
The upperoom experience happened on April 1st,
2022. My friends and I went to a studio to worship and
just spend time with God overnight and the way God
took over everything was really amazing. God is
indeed unpredictable which is why it’s always good to
come to him with an open heart. Just because God
moved a certain way today doesn’t mean he would do
the same again tomorrow. It’s a different experience
every time you come before God which is why we’re
usually advised to never get familiar.
Hello, I’m Adeniji Bisola, Abba's delight. Whichever
way you came across this book, I want you to know
that it’s intentional and God has a reason for you
seeing this. So, please relax and journey with me.

Permit me to start by saying the whole worship

experience at the studio was a miracle. As at the
moment we all gathered to board a bus going to the
studio, there wasn't enough money to pay for the studio
session but we went with the crazy faith that God will
show up for us. It was the positive energy and how
everyone was relaxed for me. And of course, God showed
up in his own way. It just taught me a whole lesson of
putting my trust in God even when it doesn’t look like
anything is working and I shared this, to encourage you
reading this that God has your back no matter what. In
this file, i'd be sharing my experience at the upper room
with my friends. Enjoy and be blessed.

THE UPPEROOM EXPERIENCE

The theme of the night was “brokenness.” That night,
we released ourselves to God so he could brood over us
and reveal to us the state of our hearts. If you must
grow spiritually, then you should be ready to let God
mold you.
There was a point in my life where I felt brokenness
was a destination. Like you just wake up one day and
you're broken. But dear reader, brokenness is a
journey. It's a journey of dying to self and submitting
to the leadership of the Holy Spirit. Just in case you
don't know what brokenness is, brokenness is a state
of acknowledging your uselessness before God and
accepting that you’re nothing without him. It's a state
where you humble yourself before God to say 'I can't
do this on my own. I'm nothing without you.' Our
nature as humans is to always think about ourselves.
An example is when you take a group picture. The first
thing you look out for is yourself in it before
considering other people in it right? But if you must
journey with God, you need to take "Self" out of the
picture and let God lead. I read a blog on medium
sometime last year that blessed me. I'd rephrase what
I learned into a question;

THE PROCESS OF

THE UPPEROOM EXPERIENCE

Have you ever gone out on the street of Lagos
or whatever place you reside in and then the
driver takes a strange route because there's
traffic and you sit on the bus, trusting the
driver to take you to your destination?
If you can trust the driver that can only see at
the point where he is, why can't you trust the
one who sees the end from the beginning, to
lead you on this journey of life?

Salvation is the beginning of a journey into

brokenness. Yes, if you have given your life to
Christ, it’s the best decision you could make
for yourself. You're a Jesus baby, saved, loved,
forgiven, sanctified and every other beautiful
adjective that describes our identity in Christ.
But it doesn’t end there. We can't remain
babies forever. Let me explain

THE PROCESS OF
JOURNEYING
DEEP

THE UPPEROOM EXPERIENCE

When you get born again, you're no longer identified
with your old life because Christ has given you a new
one. But everything about you doesn’t change
automatically. Take for example a slave who
eventually becomes king. Yes, his status has changed
but he doesn’t automatically know how to be king. It
takes a process of learning how to talk, act or even
think like a king. It’s the same process when you
come into Christ. Your character doesn’t
automatically change. That’s why a person can be
saved and still have wrong associations that drain
them, battle with pornography, drugs, sex, and other
addictions. You could even be battling with prayer and
studying the word. This is where brokenness sets in.
You need to completely surrender to the Holy Spirit,
understanding that you cannot do anything by your
power or might but by the Spirit. (Zechariah 4:6)

Just like the slave who has to submit to learn the ways
of a king, so also, you have to submit yourself to be
taught the way to live a holy life. After being born
again, you don’t automatically have a changed
mindset. That’s why scripture says that we are
continuously transformed. Transformation is not a
destination but a process.

THE UPPEROOM EXPERIENCE

And do not be conformed to this world: but be ye
transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may
prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will
of God. Romans 12:2 NLT

Brokenness requires your willingness to surrender.

Many people don't like the word surrender because
it feels like you won't be in control. We live in a
world where we like to be in control of what
happens in our life but are you really in control?
When you’re ill for example, let’s say you have
malaria and it weakens your whole body. Are you
still in control of your body? Or you trust God for
healing and that the medications you take would
work. Several people have taken that same
medicine and are no more but you did and you
received healing. Do you now see how things are
way beyond your control?

THE PROCESS OF

THE UPPEROOM EXPERIENCE

The thing about wanting to be in control is that it
makes you settle for less. That's why a person can
claim to be Jesus's baby today and turn up at the club
the next day. But it doesn't work that way. It takes
humbling yourself before God to say "Help me... I don't
know anything on my own. I can’t do anything by my
power." Scripture says in James 4:6 that God opposes
the proud and gives grace to the humble. Brokenness
is humility before God so why wouldn’t you humble
yourself?
One beautiful thing about the Holy Spirit is that he
doesn’t force himself on you. It takes you being willing
to submit yourself. And the brokenness journey for
everyone is quite different. For some people, it could
be in your choice of music. You can’t be a Christian
and listen to any type of music. Reason being that
whatever you allow into your spirit feeds it. For
instance, you’re battling with masturbation and the
lyrics of the songs promotes sexual urges. Before you
know it, you’re back into the act. The songs you listen
to, whether you know or not, has the ability to
influence you. Just like a sad lyric can make you feel
sober, a sexual lyric can prompt you into the act.

THE UPPEROOM EXPERIENCE

One thing I learned that night as my friends and I
shared our brokenness story is that God deals with us
according to how we are. For some of us, God might
want to break us in our diet. Maybe you have a bad
eating habit and God is telling you that if you
continue that way, it would affect you later in the
future. It could be in the area of character too. One of
my friends was sharing that night of how her hostel
mate did something annoying and that she didn’t
flare up like she normally would have. Because she
yielded herself to the Holy Spirit, he was able to help
her correct her character.
I remember also discussing with my friends that day
about pride and how it's easy for a person to say 'I'm
not proud,' but if God shows you the state of your
heart, you'd be shocked to see how proud you are. It's
up to you to ask God to reveal to you areas of your life
that you've not been broken and then be willing to
Obey. And if perhaps, you're reading this and you
haven't even started your journey of being broken.
Don't fret

THE PROCESS OF

THE UPPEROOM EXPERIENCE

There's a reason why you saw this. You can begin your
journey of being broken by accepting Jesus as your
personal Lord and savior. Say a short prayer with me:

Lord Jesus, I've come to you today, just the way I am.
I believe in my heart that you died just for me
and I'm willing to journey deep with you in this
process of being broken.
I acknowledge that I'm nothing without you.
Please help me.

Congratulations! if you just said that prayer. Heaven is

celebrating over you. I pray that by the mercy of God,
you grow in the knowledge of Christ and that you
learn to submit to the leadership of the Holy Spirit.
(Amen.)
