Using my own perceptions, I will discuss how digital technologies have become sponsors of

literacy (to borrow Brandt’s words) and transformed the traditional concepts from reading and

writing to accessibility on screen. Rumsey ’s theory regarding evolution of tools for attaining

electric texts is another component that should be addressed in this discussion as well:

With technology that has brought communication and increased its visualness through imaging

to the same level as textuality, my narrative will demonstrate how I’ve traversed multimodal

literacy. I will concentrate on the tactile pleasure of reading paper pages, the sound attraction to

podcasts and visual experience from infographics, as I previously created my Pinterest board, so

I will be using that as well. All these forms along with my story reflect how literacy means more

than simply words and print today.

My narrative will revolve around two pivotal moments: My conversion from book lover to

e-reader fanatic and my first contact with the phenomenon of podcasting. These incidents hint at

my personal transformation towards literacy and the impact of technological advances on our

reading tendencies, which follow Brandt’s vision regarding sponsorship in terms of reading. At

the same time I will discuss how embracing an array of literacy tools, mentioned by Rumsey

from various perspectives can both provoke alienation to traditional forms and formation as a

possibility for learning new ways.

The action plan that I have proposed will consist of an in-depth timeline beginning with my

earliest reading practices and moving to the introduction of digital media during teenage years,

attending at last as a note on multimedia literacy. And I will als be sharing my personal

experience, with the examples from my Ukrainian school. By mapping Brandt’s framework, my

intention is to identify the sponsoring forces outside me—people and entities that have aided in

shaping this literacy journey. Moreover, I will discuss Rumsey’s understanding of the heritage in
literacy tools and how each tool is used for creating a new one or associated not with complete

replacement but an increased repertoire.

This story not only will be autobiographical but also a personal reflection of the movements that

occurred among my generation in order to have this kind and level developed literacy practices.

By integrating the theoretical approaches of Brandt and Rumsey with my account, I attempt to

present a thoughtful analysis on modern literacy stories.
