Bonjour!

Today, I would like to give you a sneak peek into the history of
French wine.
The history of French wine goes back 8000 years.
Wine was made by Greeks who colonized regions of Southern
Gaul.
Then came the Romans!
The vineyards of Champagne region were first planted by the
Romans about 5000 years ago.
It is believed that the Gauls created the first wine barrels.
Wine and Christianity. Is there a connection?
Yes! A monk St. Martin planted vineyards while spreading
Christianity.
However, in the 18th century, the French revolutionists
confiscated the vineyards belonging to the church, leading to
the downfall of the wine industry.
Fast forward to the 19th century.
In the 19th century, the wine industry was devastated by
Mildew and microbes that made people sick. Then came the
saviour – Louis Pasteur. He invented Pasteurisation - a
method to destroy these microbes and make wine safe for
consumption.
Cheers!
