ABSTRACT
The Mobile phone plays a very important role in the development of mobile commerce
and mobile banking. Linking banking business to customers through mobile devices such as
transferring funds customers from anywhere at any time. The main objective of this article is
to find out the reason for using mobile banking and to know the factors considered for using
mobile banking. This article found that the factors considered for using mobile banking 24*7
service, Time saving and Convenience as these variables got the highest mean scores, trust in
M-banking and security are the least variable for considering mobile banking. Factor
analysis is used to find out the reason for using mobile banking. The analysis indicate that 5
factors are extracted which account for 71.470 per cent of the total 18 variables. Hence 18
factors are summated to 5 factors named as Social Influence, User Friendly, Secured Usage,
REVIEW OF LITERATURE
A review of the previous studies of adoption and usage of mobile bankingis necessary
to know the areas already covered. This will help to find out new areas hither to unexplored

Sunil Kumar Mishra &Durga Prasad Sahoo (2013) in his project report “Mobile banking
adoption and benefits towards customer service” has conducted a research to find out the
facilities that were provided by mobile banking services and the advantages and
disadvantages of mobile banking services. It was found that, customers could save their
valuable time and travel expenses. Mobile services to have information all the 365 days
anytime and anywhere about their account and mobile banking enables banks to reduce the

Dr. Parul Deshwal (2015) in his study entitled, “A Study of Mobile Banking in India” to
identify the various purpose of mobile banking and barriers for adopting mobile banking. The
results showed that 26% of respondents adopted it as it was an easy access at any time, 20%
of respondents adopted it,as it saved time and 13% had lack of knowledge about mobile
banking, 11% feared of losing phone and data. It suggested banks should create awareness
about mobile banking services through advertisements, pamphlets and demo fares.

mobile banking. The causes were identified and researched through correcting the causative
factors so that mobile banking can be used by more people. This will help the banking
operations to be more cost effective. The research is focused on what are the customer’s
perceptions about mobile banking offered by Indian Overseas Bank and what are the drivers
that drive consumers. He found that still the users face many problems right from the telecom
operator to banks, the handset to software application support for using services.

Amola bhatt, S. B. (2016) in his article “Factors Affecting Customer’s Adoption of Mobile
Banking Services. Journal of Internet Banking and Commerce” he says demographic,
attitudinal, and behavioural characteristics of mobile bank users were examined. The
infrastructural facility of updated user friendly technology and its availability was found to be
the most important factor that motivated consumers’ attitudes. This study identified two
additional factors i.e. infrastructural facility and customer service relevant to mobile banking
that were absent in previous researches.
This study was based on field level data. The total sample size was fixed as 135 customers.
Necessary data were collected from different ages of people and analysed in terms of the
objectives set for the study. The data for this study were collected by the survey method.

The ranks thus obtained are converted into scores with the help of Garrett’s table. For
each criterion, the scores of individual respondents are added together and divided by the
total number of respondents. The mean scores for all the criteria’s are arranged in the
mobile banking. The most important criteria to use mobile banking is ‘24x7 service’ since it
has the highest mean score of 69.72. The second important factor is ‘Time Saving’ which has
the mean score of 63.64. The next important factor is ‘Convenience’ which has the mean
score of 58.92. The least important factors are ‘Trust in m-banking’ and ‘Security’ as the
Factor Analysis
Factor analysis is a very useful method of reducing the complexity of the data by
reducing the number of variables. It is an excellent way in identifying the latent factors by
analysing correlation among variables and it explains the variables that influence much to the
Bartlett’s test of Sphericity and Kaiser Meyer Olkin (KMO) measures of sample
adequacy are used to test the appropriateness of the factor model and its results are shown
below.

The KMO value is very high (.721). Similarly the Bartlett’s test rejects the

From the above table shows it is clear that 5 factors can be extracted together which
account for 71.470 per cent of the total 18 variables. Hence 18 factors are summated to 5
The table presented below gives the Rotated Component Matrix table found by using
Varimax Method which is used to assign factors which have higher loadings.
Table 3
The above table shows that in the first column the variables namely, ‘Helps to
maintain social status’, ‘High Interest in newer technologies’, ‘My family and colleagues are
also using’, ‘Mobile phone is an easy to use device’, have higher loadings of .894, .863, .825,
.787 respectively and it can be suggested that factor 1 is the combination of these four factors
and have the variance of 33.623 percent and it can be named as ‘Social Influence’.
From the second column it can be seen that the variables of ‘Easy Process, Easy
Access,Saves Time, User Friendly have the higher loadings with a variance of 13.864 and it
The third column has four variable i.e., the ‘No need to go bank’, Physical Security,
24*7 service, Secure from fraud, has the higher loading to be named as ‘Secured Usage’.In
the fourth column havethree variable i.e., the ‘Speedy transactions’, Additional Facility,
In the last column have three variable i.e. ‘Low Cost’, ‘Differ from traditional
banking, ‘Hassle Free’ has the higher loadings to be named as ‘Modern Technology’.Thus 18
factors are reduced to five variables and are given different names by using factor analysis.
FINDINGS
the support needed to be able to bank anywhere, anytime using a mobile handheld device and
a mobile service such as Short Message Service (SMS). Mobile banking facility removes the
space and time limitations from banking activities such as checking account balances or
transferring money from one account to another and time saving by going to bank and doing
some banking activities. This article explains clearly factors considered for using mobile
banking services and reason for using Mobile Banking. By applying Henry’s Garrett Ranking
technique it is found that the important factors considered for using mobile banking are 24*7
service, Time saving and Convenience as these variables got the highest mean scores, trust in
M-banking and security are the least variable in considering the use of mobile banking.
Factor analysis is used to find out thereason for using mobile banking. The analysis indicate
that 5 factors are extracted which account for 71.470 per cent of the total 18 variables. Hence
18 factors are summated to 5 factors named as Social Influence, User Friendly, Secured
SUGGESTION
1. The banks should give awareness about the mobile banking services to their
customers and try to remove all the doubts of the customers regarding mobile banking
services.
2. The banks should demonstrate to their customers about the advantages of mobile
banking services then the customers prefer to use mobile banking over other
conservative methods.
3. To increase the popularity of e-payment among customers. RBI should stops physical
cheque clearance beyond a certain amountsay INR 5 lakhs or INR 10 lakhs. So
transactions that are conveniently go through electronic channels should be priced
higher for paper based clearing.
4. Banks should employ telecom operators as business correspondents like SBI-Airtel
and ICICI-Vodafone.
