Question 1:

a - Define:

- F/M, θc , a , b , Y , kd.

b- Draw a conventional activated sludge process and indicate definition of symbols used for steady-state
analysis.

c- Draw the relationship between soluble substrate concentration , MLSS vs time .

d- write short note on importance of process control.

Question 2:

An activated sludge plant is being considered to treat 50000 m3/day of wastewater .

- BOD conc after primary sedimentation tanks = 300 mg/l and 20 mg/l in the final effluent.
- .suspended solids conc after primary sedimentation tanks = 80 mg/l and 20 mg/l in the final effluent.
- X = 3500 mg/l
- Sludge age = 10 d
- Y = 0.6 , and kd = 0.06 d-1.
- Xu= 9000 mg/l.

Calculate:

1-Activated sludge treatment efficiency .

2- Aeration tank volume.

3- F/M ratio .
