The library I chose to use for this project is my mom’s old media center.

When I used to
help her with tasks in the media center, I remember her discussing how graphic novels were a hot
commodity, but she did not have many. I can also imagine that at the time there were not a lot of
diverse graphic novels for children to read. I loved graphic novels in elementary school, but
rarely did I find ones written by black and brown authors, or ones that related to experiences that
I was going through as a young girl. I want this project to contain books for young girls who
enjoy a laugh, but can also relate to growing up and for young black and brown children to see
themselves in a story. This list of graphic novels contains both print and ebook options that
would be used for general use and checkout.
