Pakistan Airline Industry

Pakistan is served by five Pakistani airlines on domestic routes namely Pakistan International
Airlines, Air Blue, Air Sial, Serene Air, and Fly Jinnah. All focus services on truck routes Karachi-
Lahore- Karachi and Karachi – Islamabad routes with a mediocre presence on other destinations
like Multan, Faisalabad, and Quetta. On the secondary routes like Turbat, Gwadar, Sukkur,
Gilgit, etc. all shy away except PIA which dutifully keeps the obligation of providing air
connectivity on these routes.
All operate international flights mainly to Jeddah, Riyadh, Medina, Dubai, Sharjah, and Muscat.
Pakistani airlines all together operate a fleet of 52 aircraft. This works out to 27,000 persons per
seat taking an average seat capacity of 170 with a population of 236 million. The closest to our
measure in the region is Bangladesh with a fleet size of 53 average seat capacity of 140 and a
population of 171 million gives 23,000 persons/seat.
