TECHNIQUE
TOPIC : RAMAN SPECTROSCOPY

MOTIVATION:

▪ Raman Spectroscopy is a non-destructive chemical analysis technique which provides

detailed information about chemical structure, phase, crystallinity and molecular
interactions.

WORKING PRINCIPLE:

▪ The principle of Raman spectroscopy is based on inelastic scattering of light. Here we

measure the scattered light of monochromatic light. When monochromatic radiation is
incident upon a sample, this light may be reflected, absorbed or scattered. Here
the scattering of the radiation that occurs gives information about its molecular structure.

IMPORTANCE OF RAMAN SPECTROSCOPY:

• It can differentiate chemical structures, even if they contain the same atoms in different
arrangements

APPLICATION:

•RAMAN SPECTROSCOPY IS USED IN CHEMISTRY TO IDENTIFY MOLECULES AND

STUDY CHEMICAL BONDING AND INTRAMOLECULAR BONDS.

•z
SP2 AND SP3 STRUCTURE IN CARBON MATERIALS

•CHARACTERIZATION OF BIO-MOLECULES
