ARTS IN ROXAS CITY PLAZA, CAPIZ”

CHAPTER 3

RESULT AND DISCUSSION

The research comprises two main parts. The first section pertains to the

personal data of the respondents, presenting the collected demographic information.

In the second part, the focus is on the students' desires for accessibility and their

preferences regarding to Roxas City Plaza in Capiz.

This study hones in on the major user-preferences that students anticipate in

relation to the Roxas City Plaza, and it seeks to gather their suggestions for mitigating

potential issues. By leveraging the insights gleaned from these findings, the researcher

can develop a comprehensive understanding of how the building should function to

align with user preferences.

ARTS IN ROXAS CITY PLAZA, CAPIZ”

The total number of respondents for this study comprises 34 boys, 22 girls, and 4

individuals who identify with genders other than the traditional binary genders. This

diverse group of respondents contributes to a more inclusive exploration.

FIGURE 2. The figure shows the age of the respondents

To gain a comprehensive understanding of the diverse opinions regarding the

proposed New design for Roxas City Plaza, the researcher conducted a survey with

respondents falling into different age groups. Among those surveyed, 13 individuals

were between the ages of 18 to 20, 32 respondents fell in the 20-22 age bracket, 17

participants were aged 22 to 25, and 8 respondents were 25 years old or older. This

stratification allowed the researcher to capture a wide range of perspectives across

various age cohorts, enhancing the depth and richness of the collected data.

FIGURE 3. The figure shows the educational attainment of respondents.

It was also deduced from the characteristics of the respondents that College Level had

the most respondents with 58.3%, 25% of respondents were from Senior High School

students, 13.3% were from Master Degree, and the 3.3% were from high School

Level students. These results show that the response gotten were evenly distributed

amongst the various respondents within the study area.

Figure 4. The survey results

Natural

elements incorporated in the campus design positively affect the mood and well-being

of the respondent’s data collective shows that 3.3% were disappointed, 6.7%

disagreed, 3.3% abstained, 25% agreed, and most of the respondents 61.7% agreed

that green spaces in designing a plaza affects their mood and well-being.

Figure 5. The sustainable design (e.g. water and energy conservation measures,
green space) demonstrate a commitment to environmental sustainability.

All of these features demonstrate a commitment to environmental

sustainability and responsible use of resources. The collective data shows that most of

the respondents agreed and strongly agreed that by embracing sustainable design

principles and implementing sustainable practices, the institution benefits from

sustainable learning costs, improved health and well-being for visitors, and

environmental conservation.

Figure 6: How satisfied are you with the sustainable environment in Roxas City
Plaza

The survey results indicate that the majority of respondents, at a rate of 71%

(equaling 43 individuals), prefer a sustainable design. Following closely behind is the

contemporary design, with 28.3% of respondents (17 individuals) expressing their

preference for this option. The Vintage design garnered 0% of the respondents' votes,

While, 0% voted for maintaining the present design of plaza.

Sustainable design is an approach to architecture and interior design that seeks

to connect people with nature by incorporating natural elements, materials, and

patterns into the built environment. It aims to create spaces that promote well-being,

reduce stress, and enhance productivity by fostering a strong connection to the natural

world.

As research continues, educators and architects can collaborate to create

engaging, healthy, and sustainable learning environments. This review explores

biophilic design, its origins, definition, and contribution to sustainability in

architecture, and major design strategies. It examines fundamental theories,

interpretations, benefits, and challenges in sustainable architecture.

Certainly, here are several design elements that can be included in creating a

sustainable learning environment:

Natural Light: Maximizing the use of natural light through well-placed

windows and skylights to reduce energy consumption and improve the overall

learning experience.

Greenery: Incorporating indoor plants and green walls to improve air quality,

reduce stress, and connect students with nature.

Flexible Spaces: Designing versatile and adaptable classrooms or learning

areas to accommodate various teaching styles and group sizes.

Water Efficiency: Implementing water-saving fixtures and systems to

conserve water resources.

Waste Reduction: Implementing waste reduction and recycling programs

within the learning environment.

Bike and Pedestrian Accessibility: Encouraging sustainable transportation

options by providing bike racks and pedestrian-friendly access.

Technology Integration: Incorporating energy-efficient technology and smart

systems to monitor and optimize resource usage.

Community Engagement: Involving the local community and stakeholders in

the design and maintenance of the sustainable learning environment.

This study shows that respondents want a sustainable design for the plaza

because they recognize the importance of environmental conservation and eco-

friendly practices. Respondents in the study expressed a growing concern for the

planet's well-being and the need to mitigate climate change. They believe that a

sustainable plaza design aligns with their values, contributing to the overall well-

being of the community and creating a space that not only meets their immediate

needs but also preserves natural resources for future generations. Additionally,

respondents emphasized the positive impact of sustainable design on their quality of

life, emphasizing the importance of green spaces, energy efficiency, and responsible

use of materials in creating a harmonious and eco-conscious environment.
