1_ When I was a kid, I had a big problem. I was tall, but overweight.

I grew up in
Miami and the local zoo had an elephant named ‘Sam’. Needless to say I was called ‘Sam
the elephant’, ‘Sam the palace’ or ‘big fat Sam’. I was unhappy and I hated my body.
When I was ten years old, I used to cry myself to sleep every night. Every morning, I
would wake up and look at my legs and hope for them to be smaller, thinner and more
beautiful.
2_ So, I started to cut back what I ate in the hope of becoming less fat. Then, I
moved and made many new friends. Other pupils would pick on me and say mean things.
One day, an eight - grader was walking by me and said: ‘How’s your diet going Fat boy!’
One of my classmates said to me once, ‘You are the sickest and fattest kid I have ever
seen’. I never felt so humiliated and sad in my life. Instead of losing kilos, I gained 5
more. The kids started calling me’ hippo’, I reminded them of the hippopotamus, that
large and big animal.
3_ That is my story of my middle school years. I had a terrible time and I did hate
going to school. Now, I am relatively slim. All my childhood stories of overweight are
just memories.
