Certificate IV in Training and Assessment


Are you passionate about sharing knowledge and training others?
When you complete the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment you will be ready to start a rewarding
career as a vocational trainer, assessor, or lecturer, either in the private or public sector.
The Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is an essential requirement for anyone wishing to deliver
vocational education and training for a registered training organisation in Australia.

This course remains FEE FREE in 2024! The tuition fees are 100 per cent
subsidised by the WA Government for WA residents.

Some eligibility conditions apply for the free training, and other fees may apply for

This qualification is directly aligned with priority industry areas where the jobs are
today, and into the future. As part of the state government Lower fees, local
skills initiative, from 1 January 2020 through to 31 December 2025 you'll only pay
half the course fees, capped for each year at $1,200; or $400 (plus resource fee) if
you're aged 15—24 or eligible for a concession. Find out more

Entrance requirements
School Leaver Non-School Leaver AQF

C Grades in Year 11 WACE General C Grades in Year 11 English and Certificate II or


English, and OLNA; or NAPLAN 9 Maths or equivalent Certificate III
Band 8

need to demonstrated the following during the application process:

Vocational competency or a vocational area


Access to a workplace for the completion of assessments
Effective language, communication and interpersonal skills
Digital literacy and sound application of computer programs e.g. MS Word, Outlook

Assessments require access to real learning contexts and to a group of at least eight learners to
demonstrate your skills and knowledge either in your workplace or access to one that relates to your
vocational competency.

Study requirements
Attendance in class
Intensive Workshops – The course will be delivered one day per week over the semester. You can
indicate the course location that is most suitable for you to attend. If your preferred option is not available
because the class is fully subscribed, you will be contacted to see if an available alternative is suitable to
you. You are expected to attend for the entire duration of the course and cannot expect to change days or
times.
SM TAFE study options that are provided for the TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment are
based on intensive delivery which is face to face on campus.

At-home study
You will receive an email that will outline some mandatory pre-work and activities that you are required to
complete prior to your first class attendance.
Students are required to complete pre-reading and preparation prior to attending classes in their own time.
The time allocation would be approximately 15-20 additional hours per week for the period of the course
when attending one full day per week.
You will need to have the basic technical requirements for at-home study. If you don’t have access to a
computer and WiFi at home, we recommend using our library computers during library hours.

Work placement
Work placement is not a requirement for this course.

What you need for your first day of class


On your first day you should bring your SM TAFE confirmation enrolment receipt, your student ID and
stationery (pen, USB & exercise book). Students are also welcome to bring a laptop or tablet.

Uniform and equipment requirements


There is no uniform. Smart casual dress is required.
