1.可能形
Potential form
Potential forms are used when expressing the performance of an action or the
ability to achieve a certain state.
It is the same meaning as the expression "…ことができます", which we studied
in the N5 course.
①For Group 1 verbs, change the ending kana into the え column of the same
row in which the last kana belongs to, and add "る".
Example: よむ → よめる
かう → かえる
Note: Some words such as はいる and かえる seem like Group 2 verbs,
but actually belong to Group 1 verbs, so this rule is applied.
②For Group 2 verbs, take out the ending kana "る" and insert "られる".
Example: たべる → たべられる
おきる → おきられる
③For Group 3 verbs, these are irregular verbs, so they have special
conjugations. Especially, the potential form of "する".
Example: くる → こられる
する → できる
Note: When the dictionary form of verbs is changed into the potential
form, it's called "potential verb".
か た こ
Example: 書 ける 食 べられる 来 られる

-form, ない-form, て-form, and た-form is the same as Group 2 verbs.
