Tinikling
This is perhaps the most popular folk dance in the Philippines. It involves dancers
hopping between bamboo poles held and struck together by other performers. The
dance imitates the movements of the tikling bird as they hop and jump across grass
stems, run over tree branches, or escape from the bamboo traps set by farmers.

2.Cariñosa
This is a courtship dance that involves a couple dancing in a flirtatious manner.
The dance is performed with a fan or handkerchief, which plays an instrumental
role in the dance.
3.Maglalatik
This is a folk dance performed by male dancers. Coconut shell halves are secured onto
the dancers’ hands and on vests upon which are hung four or six more coconut shell
halves. The dancers perform the dance by hitting one coconut shell with the other.

4.Singkil
This is a folk dance performed by male dancers. Coconut shell halves are secured onto
the dancers’ hands and on vests upon which are hung four or six more coconut shell
halves. The dancers perform the dance by hitting one coconut shell with the other.
Maria Clara Dance
This dance is named after Maria Clara, the main female character in Jose Rizal’s
novel, Noli Me Tangere. The dance is a mix of Spanish gracefulness and customized
native props, such as bamboo castanets and Asian fans.

Cordillera Dance
These dances are from the Cordillera region and are often used to appease their
ancestors and gods. Their dances are mostly ritualistic- for weddings, for wars and
battles, for harvests, etc., and portray the personalities of the tribe with their everyday
life.
Muslim Dance
These dances are from the Muslim community in the Philippines. They often involve a
lot of grace and precision, often telling stories or representing historical events.

Rural Dance
These dances are popular in the rural areas of the Philippines. They often involve
elements of the daily life and work in these areas, such as farming and fishing.

Tribal Dance
These dances are from the various indigenous tribes in the Philippines. They often
involve elements of the tribe’s culture and history, and can involve complex
movements and costumes.
