great American cities – Module 3). To continue their journey, they are encouraged to better
understand the specificity of the USA states in an integrated context: symbolic elements,
geographical features, area, capital cities etc. This activity would cumulate the experience
acquired while covering the units mentioned above (vocabulary, basic grammar, new words and
structures) and would extend the area and require new skills like searching for and selecting
information, giving a presentation and evaluating their classmates. It must be also mentioned,
that this activity would keep their interest open and encourage them to participate at the other
activities designed for their development as well as for the improvement of their knowledges.
Aims: To enable Ss to explore content, extract pieces of information and create their own
presentations
Assumptions: The Ss are familiar to some aspects of the American Culture and Civilization, they
have good communicative abilities and can be easily encouraged to participate actively and
design their own material. The exercises were created and selected from different textbooks, with
a particular attention to the semiotic aspect of the fact file (written text and image). A majority
will be motivated and attracted to get involved in the creative task.
Anticipated problem: Ss may have a lot of new words related to American Culture and
Civilization. (Possible solution: discuss the vocabulary aspect, encouraging Ss to offer answers
to their classmates. In case no one knows the answer, Ss are invited to guess the meaning being
offered clues).
